La Mirada High School

On an overcast and gloomy Halloween afternoon, the Matadores of La Mirada prepared for Suburban League finals by handily defeating the Monsoons from Mayfair High School. The Lady Mats (10 - 0), showing the effects of a hard week, closed out regular season competition in 1^st place with a 15 to 49 score against the Mayfair team. Leading the way over the 3-mile course this week were Destinie Martin (21:16) and Amanda Stephens (21:17). The Matadores are certain that their lackadaisical effort this week will not affect their performance at next weeks league finals race where they hope to achieve back-to-back titles in the Suburban league and extend their string of consecutive CIF-SS prelims appearances to 17 years.

The boys varsity team enters Suburban League finals in 2^nd place with a 5 - 1 record in league competition (8 - 2 overall). The Matador runners, led by Nathaniel Moore (16:55) and Dag Tesfaye (16:56), outscored their opponents this week 15 to 50. Having raced to the fastest school team time at Mt. SAC in 12 years, the young Matador team has their goal set on another CIF-SS prelims appearance.

Led by Freddie Ramirez (18:29), the Frosh-Soph boys swept the Monsoons and completed Suburban League competition with a record of 5 - 1. The Girls JV team, led by Sonia Linares (23:22) and Marlene Guerrero (23:46), remains undefeated at 6 - 0.

Suburban League finals will be held at Mt. SAC on Wednesday, November 6^th. The first race begins at 12:00 noon.
