New Records for Matadore Runners!

Posted by Ralph Casas on Oct 09 2002 at 05:00PM PDT

La Mirada Cross Country records took a beating in the dual meets against Glenn and Artesia this week.  In the boys race, Nathaniel Moore bested his own sophomore record by 20 seconds, completing the Glenn course in 16:28.  Moore also holds the boys freshman record at 17:08.  In addition, sophomores Jared Bird (16:41) and Daniel Lee (16:47) entered the fastest all time list for La Mirada at the #10 and #11 spot respectively.  Senior, Dag Tesfaye barely missed the list with a time of 17:06.

In the girls race, senior Audrey Serrata (19:43) became the first Matadore runner in 20 years to break through the 20 minute barrier. A week earlier against Norwalk, on a 3.1 mile course, Audrey raced to the 3-mile point in exactly 20 minutes.  Audrey, now 2nd on the elite list, is only 4 seconds shy of the senior record and the overall girls school record set in 1982 by Sheila Jordan.  Not to be outdone, freshman Destinie Martin (20:19) shattered the girls freshman record by 18 seconds.  The previous record, held by Leslee Rogers (20:37), was set in 1986.  Destinie now has her sights set on being the next girl to break the elusive 20 minute barrier.

Congratulations to all the runners who PR'ed and performed so well against Glenn and Artesia.
