A short-handed La Mirada Matadores team participated in the 58th annual Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational on Saturday, October 22 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut. Due to several illnesses, the varsity girls were forced to pull out of the individual sweepstakes race late Friday afternoon; ultimately, only Destinie Martin raced in a varsity race. She completed the 2.91 mile course in a time of 20:18, fast enough to place her 3rd on the list of elite Lady Mat runners at Mt. SAC. Sarah Jeon was moved to the Sophomore race where she finished in 5th place overall with a PR and a time of 21:01. Likewise the boys ran only "team Andrew" in the varsity race. Senior, Andrew Diaz, raced to a 16:08 and a new Matadores record. Andrew Bueno finished in a respectable 17:06. All other Matadores runners raced at the Frosh-Soph or JV levels. And, in what is a good sign for the future, they all performed well. In fact, most of the JV and Frosh-Soph runners earned new PR's on the difficult course. The Matadores will use this week to train for Suburban League Finals which will be contested Thursday, November 3rd, at La Mirada Regional Park.
