Pacers Stumble out of the Block

Posted by Chris Cloutier on Aug 28 2004 at 05:00PM PDT
The Bedford Pacers started off the Fall 2004 campaign with a 4-1 loss at the hands of Marblehead. The game was 2-1 until the final minutes. Pacers started with six field players, but right at the first touch a wave of players hit the pitch and they eventually even had a sub. With a day in the 90's, and very humid, the short bench would cost them dearly. Marblehead took a 1-0 lead at the half when a perfectly executed overlap allowed for a clear look at the goal from 10 yards out. The shot wasn't whistled, but it was placed nicely and just slipped by Pacer keeper Chris Cloutier. Bedford was playing well as they were coordinating some new personnel and some players were playing out of position. Early in the second half, and close offsides call was allowed to play, and Marblehead took a 2-0 lead. Deco would rip home a drive after Chris Laberge found him open, and the Pacers were back to within one with a half-hour left. Both Laberge and Chris Florek had solid chances to level it, but their shots were saved. Marblehead salted it away in the final two minutes with two more to make the final 4-1. A rough start to the season with so many missing bodies. Hopefully, Bedford will be able to sport a team this year or it's going to be a long season. They are off next week (Labor Day Weekend), but are back in action the following Sunday morning at home against Ipswich.
