North Andover Nudges Bedford 5-4

Posted by Dale Dubois on Sep 23 2002 at 05:00PM PDT
The Bedford Pacers came up on the short end of the scoring stick, Sunday, as they were beaten by the Hotspurs of North Andover, 5-4. For the second week in a row, Bedford would give up late game goals to loose a match that they clearly controlled and should have won. Jeff Bailey would score two goals and assist on another to lead Bedford in the scoring in what normally is plenty to win. The Pacers would start the game strong against the league leaders, controlling the game and clearly dominating. North Andover would spoil every attempt to score however. Then as Bedford was changing personel, North Andover would score two quick goals to go up 2-0. Jeff Bailey would answer with his first goal of the night on a feed from Marco Koolman. Jeff and Marco did an excellent job controlling the attacking and offensive midfield for the Pacers. The first half would end with the momentum in leaning towards Bedford. Similar to the start of the game, Bedford would come out and take control of the game. The Pacers would keep the ball in the Hotspurs end for the first ten minutes of play. Scott Sharby would net one for Bedford on a pass from John Guild that would tie the score at two a piece. North Andover would come back however with a goal to give them back the lead. Bedford would come back, on a quick counter, working the balll out of the backfield down the right side. Jon Cloutier would find Jeff Bailey open. Jeff would draw two defenders in, which would leave Jeff Guild wide open in front of the net. Jeff Guild would recieve the Bailey pass and deposit it in rear netting. This would tie the score at 3-3 with momentum in Bedford's hands. The Pacers would come right back at North Andover. Chris Cloutier would feed a pass in to Jeff Bailey who would beat the keeper for his second goal. Bedford had the game wrapped up. North Andover would not go down as they would score the equallizer with abut five minutes to spare. Then, identical to last week, North Andover would come down the right side beating the Pacers and cross the ball to a charging striker. The head ball would find the net and give the Hotspurs the win, 5-4. A very disappointing loss for the Pacer club. Next week Bedford travels to Windham in an effort to get on the winning track. Game time is 9 AM at the Nashua Road Field.
