Bedford Pacers Tie Billerica With Only 9

Posted by Dale Dubois on Oct 21 2001 at 05:00PM PDT
The Pacers showed up in Billerica with a record low number of players, 8 vs the 11 Rovers with four subs. The Pacers played well, actually controlling the play of the game. "It was simple, stand them up and let them shoot from 30 yards out" was the strategy that worked well. The Pacers actually scored first, with Rob Easton sending John Guild in on the Keeper, as two of the Rovers collided. This sent the Billerica players into a constant battle amongst themselves, which would continue throughout the remainder of the match. The first half would end with the Pacers up 1-0 and the long awaited arrival of Louie. With fresh legs and 9 players the Pacers pushed to score again in the second half, but, the play got physical and the yellow cards started to show, one for Dale and one for the bad boy, Rob Easton, as well. The Rovers pressured and were able to roll a ball into the Pacers net, after Chris lost his footing and slipped in the dirt. It was unfortunate, because Chris had a very good game, playing like and indoor keeper and shutting down the Rovers constantantly. A few more yellows were flashed, one more for Louie and a few for the Rovers side. This prompted a conference between the Referee and the two team captains. The Referee threatened to end the game if there was any more trouble. This put a spark in the Pacers eyes... Lets see, 9 players, end with a tie on the road, end the game early so Peter can pick up his son at Logan... Okay, Rob trips whiner #12 from behind, who in turn retaliates, which causes Dale to kick the ball into his face, Game over. The Pacers have a tough match this Sunday against the Lowell team. The Lowell team has obvious trouble on the road and has just come off a loss to division leading Hollis. So lets try to get 13 or 14 players to the game. Email your availability to Dale ASAP
