Mavericks Whip Fallbrook 14-3

Posted by Neil Miller at May 4, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Playing on a beautiful field on a perfect afternoon, La Costa faced the Warriors of Fallbrook in Game 1 of a three-game series.  Both teams drew blanks in the first inning, but La Costa seized the lead in the second with three runs, two of which came off a homerun bomb to centerfield by Shayne Davern.  In the third inning LCC scored two more off a 600 foot shot (300 high, 300 long) by Colin Winters.  Failing to give up, the Warriors posted two runs in the bottom of the third.  With the score now closing at 5-2, the Mavericks got serious and scored 7 big runs in a bat-around frenzy.  The Mavericks then cruised on to win the game by a final score of 14-3.

LCC hitters included Casinelli, Davern, Winters, Smith, Allmaras, Miller, Marinos, and Johnson.

Brody Curtis started the game on the mound and got the win, pitching three innings.  Theriault provided three strong innings of relief and Addy closed the 7th.

The Mavericks moved to 9-0 in league play and 25-2 for the season.

Father vs. Son Game

Posted by Neil Miller at May 3, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
The dads played the boys in a spirited Father / Son game.  The boys took it easy on their dads.  The moms were happy to see that there were no Life Flight helicopters called in to haul off any seriously injurred dads.

The play of the game was Groseclose Junior tagging Groseclose Senior out at home plate.  Allmaras was nearly ejected from the game for a malicious slide in to third base.

If nothing else this game gives the parents a little more respect for the high level of play that we take for granted when watching these talented boys play baseball.

Rumor has it that eleven dads are missing work today from minor injuries sustained during the game.  Not bad......

Mavericks Take 3rd Game To Sweep Escondido

Posted by Neil Miller at Apr 29, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Having won the first two games of the series convincingly, the Mavs showed up sure that they would win the third game by a big margin.  Escondido had other thoughts about the game......

Batting around in the first inning the Mavericks jumped ahead 4-0.  The Mavs then added 1 more in the bottom of the third.  After that the Mavericks could not sustain a rally and runners were left stranded on the bases.  The Cougars slowly started to work their way back in to the game scoring 1 in the 4th and 2 more in the 5th.  The threat got even more serious in the 6th when they loaded the bases with no one out.  Fortunately the Mavericks made the plays they needed to make in the 6th and 7th inning and they came home with a 5-3 victory.

Kyle Sachrison started and threw 4 innings giving up one run.  Shayne Davern pitched 2 and Brody Curtis closed the game in a pressure situation to get the first official save of the season.

Allmaras, Balderas, Casas, Miller, Schenk, Solomon, and Winters had hits.  (For a change, there were no home runs in the game.)

With this win the Mavericks move to 24-2 for the season and 8-0 in Avocado League play.  Next up is Fallbrook.
