Freshmen Win Valley Center Tournament

With a record of 3-1 in pool play, the Freshmen Team managed to sneak in to the Valley Center Tournament Semi-Finals on Saturday, March 20th.

The boys faced Rancho Buena Vista in the Semi-Final round and quickly dispatched them with a 5-1 win.  Kyle Sachrison threw 6 strong innings,  giving up just 1 run.  Chad Theriault then spelled one inning of relief to finish the game in the 7th.  Excellent pitching was backed by a strong defensive outing by the entire team.  The team had no errors in the game.  The team also executed at the plate with situational hitting, and key stolen bases.  The big hit of the game was a bomb to center field by Colin Winters.

The Mavericks played nemesis Carlsbad in the Tournament Finals.  Unbeaten for the year, and being the top seed in the tournament, Carlsbad was the theoretical favorite in the game.  LCC again played a strong defensive game with two key double plays.  Shayne Davern and Keats Ewing combined to give up only 1 run and three hits over the course of the game.  The Mavericks won the championship game with a final score of 6-1.

The Freshmen are now 7-1 on the season.
