North County Times - Rob Terranova

La Costa Canyon High's Trent Swart tossed a perfect game Wednesday afternoon, continuing his dominant senior season by striking out 15 in a 9-0 victory at Oceanside.

"He just dominated our line-up," Oceanside coach Dave Barrett said. "It was his day."

Swart (4-0) has allowed just one run in 31 innings this season. Wednesday's outing lowered his ERA to 0.23.

"I just wanted to go out there today and be effective," said the Duke-bound Swart,"I heard people saying stuff about the perfect game when I was going to the mound in the seventh, but I just went out there and went right at the guys."

Said Mavericks coach Justin Machado: "He had greeat command of all three pitches today. He was able to get that first strike and he never had a three-ball count. He's always been one of the best pitchers we ever had."

This was the very first Perfect Game in La Costa Canyon High School's History.   No runs, no hits, no walks and no errors in the field. Twenty one up and twenty one down.

A no hitter at any level of baseball usually involves at least one great defensive play. Swart made it easy on his team mates by striking out 15 Pirates. His team mates did their part in making six outs in the field without a single error.

In three games against Oceanside the Pirates scored zero runs and collected only three hits in the three games.

In Wednesday's game LCC's Phillip Evans hit two home runs and knocked in 4 runs, and  Evan Schrieber added another home run and 2 rbi's.
