LA COSTA CANYON HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

  The Mavericks broke out the bats to beat Carlsbad 9 - 3 in the first round of the CIF Open Division Playoffs.

  The Mavericks will host Mira Mesa on Friday at 3:30 pm at La Costa Canyon High as Mira Mesa jumped out to a 5-0 lead and then hung on to upset Rancho Bernardo 5-4.

  Granite Hills took care of Rancho Buena Vista  9 - 2;

  Cathedral Catholic edged Vista 8 - 6 as the Dons saved Brady Aiken for the No. 2 seeded Granite Hills.

  The Friday Second Round Match Ups Are Set as Follows:

Mira Mesa (10-19) at La Costa Canyon (19-11) at 3:30 pm.

Carlsbad (20-11) at Rancho Bernardo (28-4) at 3:30 pm.

Rancho Buena Vista (12-18) at Vista (17-14) at 3:30 pm.

Cathedral Catholic (24-5) at Granite Hills (23-7) at 3:30 pm.

Note: In Division II Play, El Camino edged West Hills 1 - 0.
