Mavericks Take 3rd Game To Sweep Escondido

Posted by Neil Miller on Apr 29 2010 at 05:00PM PDT
Having won the first two games of the series convincingly, the Mavs showed up sure that they would win the third game by a big margin.  Escondido had other thoughts about the game......

Batting around in the first inning the Mavericks jumped ahead 4-0.  The Mavs then added 1 more in the bottom of the third.  After that the Mavericks could not sustain a rally and runners were left stranded on the bases.  The Cougars slowly started to work their way back in to the game scoring 1 in the 4th and 2 more in the 5th.  The threat got even more serious in the 6th when they loaded the bases with no one out.  Fortunately the Mavericks made the plays they needed to make in the 6th and 7th inning and they came home with a 5-3 victory.

Kyle Sachrison started and threw 4 innings giving up one run.  Shayne Davern pitched 2 and Brody Curtis closed the game in a pressure situation to get the first official save of the season.

Allmaras, Balderas, Casas, Miller, Schenk, Solomon, and Winters had hits.  (For a change, there were no home runs in the game.)

With this win the Mavericks move to 24-2 for the season and 8-0 in Avocado League play.  Next up is Fallbrook.
