LA COSTA CANYON HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

La Costa came up on the short end of a 3-2 final score against Temecula Valley in a Lion’s Tournament semifinal game at University of San Diego.  The Golden Bears opened the scoring with a run in the 1^st and the Mavs responded with 2 in the 3^rd inning on a double by Kevin Hill, an RBI single by Mitch Tybroski, and an RBI grounder by Phil Evans.  Jake Raffaele turned in a gutsy performance on the mound, going 6-1/3 and allowing only one run on 5 hits in the first 6 innings. Fatigue caught up in the 7^th, however, when he walked the first 2 hitters then allowed a single to load the bases before being relieved. A 2-out single drove in the winning runs for Temecula. The Mavs had 2 baserunners in the bottom of the inning on hits by Kyle Durrshmidt and Hill, but were unable to move them around. The loss puts the La Costa record at 13-2.
