LA COSTA CANYON HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL

Garrett Hughes powered La Costa to a victory over Mission Hills with a 3 run homer to open the scoring and 5 shutout innings on the mound.  It was a cold, drizzly afternoon, and neither team scored until the 4^th inning, when Hughes followed singles by Grant Jochem and Will Swanner with a towering blast to right center.  Jochem added to the Mav tally in the 5^th with a 2 run shot to left that finished the Grizzly starter. Mission Hills responded in the 6^th with 3 runs on 5 hits, but Jake Raffaele entered in relief and stopped the rally. The La Costa offense went back to work in the bottom of the 6^th with a double by Hughes, an RBI triple by Matt Lindberg, a sac fly by Kevin Hill, and an RBI single by Zach Gage, taking the score to the final 8-3. Michael Swanner closed the door on Mission Hills in the 7^th to preserve the win.
