Mavs Use Long Ball to Defeat El Camino Real

The Maverick showed some muscle in defeating El Camino Real of Westhills Los Angeles 5-0. In doing so the Mavericks posted their second straight shutout in the Classic division of the Lions Tournament. The offense was keyed by Michael Scharbarth and Scott Clement who showed some impressive power with three home runs. In the second inning Michael Scharbarth hit his fifth home run of the year to lead off the inning. One out later Clement followed suit with a blast to dead center. The two home runs gave the Mavericks the lead that they would not relinquish. In the fourth inning Scharbarth led off the inning with a double, was sacrificed to third by Zepeda, and scored on Clements second home run of the game. Doug Konoske posted his fourth win of the year going the distance striking out five. The Mavericks showed some impressive glove work, highlighted by three double plays ending possible big innings. The win moves the Mavericks to 2-0 in the tournament, and puts them in the drivers seat for the semi finals on Thursday. The Mavericks play Calvary Chapel on Wednesday to finish out bracket play.
