TOP SOPHOMORE: La Costa Canyon outfielder Mickey Moniak has been named the state Sophomore Player of the Year by Cal-Hi Sports.  Moniak hit .461 with two homers and 27 RBIs this season.  He scored 34 runs, had 10 doubles and stole 17 bases. Plus, he had a school-record 53 hits.  "Mickey is a really good player, and an even better kid," said LCC coach Justin Machado. "He's gifted, but he works hard and doesn't take anything for granted."

The last Sophomore Player of the year from San Diego was Alex Jackson of Rancho Bernardo, who was the sixth player taken in the 2014 MLB draft.
