 The Mavericks opened the 2014 season with a challenging schedule in the Hill Top Tournament, opening the season with a 3-4 loss to No. 1 ranked Rancho Bernardo, edged Bonita Vista 2-1, and clobbered El Capitan 11-1 before loosing to No. 2 ranked Cathedral Catholic 2-3 and No. 5 ranked Granite Hills 0-3. In the game against Cathedral Catholic the Don's star pitcher Brady Aiken pitched 4.67 innings, did not allow a single hit, while walking 1 and striking out 12.
