MAVS Rally to Win Game 3 of Lions Tournament

Posted by James Brookey on Apr 03 2007 at 05:00PM PDT
The Mavericks? offense produced a 4-run rally in the 5th inning today for a 7-6 victory over the Edison Huntington Beach Chargers in Game Three of the Lions Tournament. Starting pitcher Jarad Henry threw a complete game, giving up 6 runs on 7 hits (11 K, 4 BB) for his first varsity win. Offensively, the Mavs collected 7 runs on just 5 hits. Grant Allgire (2 for 2, HR, 3 RBI) led the offense with a 2-run home run in the 3rd. With the tying run on 2nd base in the top of the 7th, the Mavs? defense made a game-saving play when the next batter singled to the right field gap. As the base runner rounded 3rd, Rusty Leedy threw the ball to the cut-off Zach Gage who relayed the ball to Danny Bethea who tagged the runner out at home. Henry retired the next two batters for the win. The Mavericks play in the Classic Division Semi-Finals at 9:30 am on Thursday at Point Loma Nazarene University. The winner of that game advances to the Championship game at 3:30pm. image
