Herkowski Back in Top Form

Posted by Steve Elliott at Aug 6, 2003 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )
Congrats to James Herkowski, another camblanasian who brings out his A-game for the majors. Herkowski delivered in a major way for the Nationals in their three game series against the Kingpins. Herkowski's .600 batting average was tops on the team and his home run in the deciding third game provided the team with the momentum necessary to advance to the Championship Round. Hats off to the fattest member of the Nationals.
Mark your calendars boys and girls. The 15th annual Doyne Open will be held this year on AUGUST 31, 2003. Tee time will be 10am. This event also serves as the Nationals' year-end awards ceremony. All players should make time to attend. In addition to team awards, the event offers raffle prizes. In addition, this year all golfers will receive a certificate redeemable for a custom fit lob wedge (60 degrees) The ultimate prize - the coveted Green Jacket?? - will again be up for grabs. 4 under was the winning score in 2002, but this year's larger field should pressure that number lower. TO REGISTER: Click on "Doyne Open" in the menu column and follow the links or phone Lance at 262-679-4661. Advance registration is strongly suggested.
The Milwaukee Athletics began their playoff run a game earlier than the Nationals. Faced with the need for a win to earn a playoff spot, the Athletics showed that they are a legitimate title contender. Taking advantage of a Nationals squad that was tuning up for the post season, the Athletics played with a sense of urgency in defeating the Nats 7-3. On Tuesday the Nationals clinched a #1 seed and division title, so Manager Tim Spata's agenda was a bit different. He used the game to rest starters and keep his pitching staff sharp. 5 different men toed the rubber, with Joe Kissler suffering his first loss of the season. Playoffs begin Saturday. The Nationals will face the Kingpins in a doubleheader beginning at 6PM. If the teams split, a deciding third game will be played on Wednesday August 13 at 7PM. All Nationals playoff games will be played at Zirkel Field in McCarty Park, West Allis.
