The Milwaukee Athletics began their playoff run a game earlier than the Nationals. Faced with the need for a win to earn a playoff spot, the Athletics showed that they are a legitimate title contender. Taking advantage of a Nationals squad that was tuning up for the post season, the Athletics played with a sense of urgency in defeating the Nats 7-3.
On Tuesday the Nationals clinched a #1 seed and division title, so Manager Tim Spata's agenda was a bit different. He used the game to rest starters and keep his pitching staff sharp. 5 different men toed the rubber, with Joe Kissler suffering his first loss of the season.
Playoffs begin Saturday. The Nationals will face the Kingpins in a doubleheader beginning at 6PM. If the teams split, a deciding third game will be played on Wednesday August 13 at 7PM. All Nationals playoff games will be played at Zirkel Field in McCarty Park, West Allis.
