Nats Walk to Victory in 2009 Season Opener

Posted by Steve Elliott on May 16 2009 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Season

The old adage about pitchers being ahead of hitters early in the season didn't hold true on Saturday evening in Burlington.   Nats hitters patiently took 15 free passes from the Barons en route to a 13-2 mercy rule victory.

The game was never in question.  The Nats sent 11 men to the dish in the first inning, plating 6 runs, and never looked back.    The "offense" mustered 2 knocks and drew 5 walks.

Leading the charge was Nationals rookie Sam Kenseth.   Kenseth drove in three runs with two hits and pitched four innings of one hit baseball to earn the victory.

James Herkowski added two hits and two RBI's, including another double to add to his All Time team record.

Next up for the Nationals are the Menasha Macs.   The two teams square off on Friday night at 7:15pm in Menasha.
