Late Rally Pushes Nats by Racine

Posted by Steve Elliott on Jul 13 2010 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Season

Matt Soderlund's two out, two run single in the bottom of the seventh plated Tom Zimmerman and Jimmy Jungbauer and this proved to be the difference Tuesday night as the Nationals prevailed 2-1.

A well pitched game on both sides, neither offense was able to generate many threats.    The Nats were unable to push runs across in the 4th, 5th, or 6th after putting runners in scoring position; Racine, conversely was unable to get a runner in scoring position until the 6th but made the most of the opportunity.  Mike Johnson singled home Zach O'Haver with two outs.

It was an exceptional night for Nationals pitchers.    All three were called into emergency use on short rest and all three rose to the challenge.     Curt Pryal worked the first six innings after a seven inning outing on Saturday.   He allowed only three hits and one walk while striking out 5.    Alex Kingsley threw the next two on the tail of his own six inning outing on Saturday.   Kingsley needed only 25 pitches to hold the Kiwanis scoreless in the seventh and eighth.   Jimmy Jungbauer then closed the door.   Jungbauer threw the final inning, settling in after allowing a lead off single and a walk, and earned his third save of the year.

Next up for the Nationals are the Kenosha Merchants in a non-league contest.   The game is set to begin at 1PM on Saturday at Carthage College in Kenosha.
