A little cold weather certainly didn't scare the Old Timers last Saturday at Zirkel Field. Johnny Arnold? That's a different matter. Leading start to finish, youth prevailed 6-1.
In an aggressive tactical effort, the Young Bucks trotted the veteran lefthander to the mound to start the annual Old Timer's game. The result was predictable, if not painful. Mixing a heavy fastball and curve, Arnold dominated the AARP group's slow bats, striking out seven in three innings of work. The lone highlight was a line single to right field by Bill Beres. Beres went on to finish with an Old Timer game record three hits on the day.
The young bucks were led by Alex Franson, James Herkowski, Brian Gibson, and Jim Dettman, each contributing two knocks.
