Nats win in bottom of 9th

Posted by Steve Elliott on Jul 06 2010 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Season

It wasn't a strong performance, and at times it was a downright sloppy one, but the Nationals persevered against the Milwaukee Beavers on Tuesday night 8-7.

After giving back leads of 1-0 and 6-3, the Nationals faced a 7-6 deficit heading into the bottom of the 9th.   Jared Stengel led off the inning with a line single to left and took second when the left fielder had trouble corralling the ball.    Erik Martwick pinch ran and then took third on a wild pitch.   After Dean Mlachnik was hit by a pitch and took second on defensive indifference, Jim Jungbauer crushed a single to the wall in center, scoring two to give the Nationals the victory.

Danny Putnam led the offense with 3 hits.   Dean Mlachnik and Jared Stengel added two a piece.

Mitch Lochen went 6 strong innings but had no decision to show for it.   Danny Putnam earned the win with 2.3 innings of solid relief.

Next up are the West Allis White Sox on Saturday afternoon at New Berlin West High School.   The teams will play two with game one starting at 1pm.
