Revived offense carries Nats to win over White Sox

Posted by Steve Elliott on Jul 02 2008 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Season

After struggling for eight innings against the Kenosha Kings last Thursday, the Nationals offense exploded for 4 runs and 5 hits in the ninth.   Unfortunately, it was too little, too late as the team fell 7-4.

What was fortunate, though, was that the team had finally found its offense groove and it carried that vibe into and through Tuesday's game against the White Sox on the way to a 13-7 win.

After a quiet first inning, the team strung together a combination of hard hit balls and walks to tally 5 runs in the second.

The suddenly big-inning offense did the same in the fourth and eighth innings, posting 4 runs each time.

James Herkowski and Danny Putnam led the way with 3 hits each.   Herkowski's first knock moved him to the top of the Nationals All Time hit list, passing Alex Franson.

Jared Stengal and Curt Pryal added two hits and three runs each.  Tom Zimmerman and Herkowski were the RBI leaders with 3 a piece.

The winning pitcher was Curt Pryal who threw 3.1 innings of scoreless relief for starter Jim Jungbauer.   In picking up his 4th win of the year, Pryal struck out 5.

Next up is a noon DH against the Racine Kiwanis at Horlick Field on July 5.
