White Sox bring out Brooms on Nationals

Posted by Steve Elliott on Jun 18 2006 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Season
In a battle of cross-town rivals that puts brother against brother, the West Allis baseball supremacy in 2006 looks like it's in favor of the White Sox. That after they dismantled the Nationals 7-2 and 10-0 in a double header saturday at Zirkel Field. In game 1, Nationals castoff Tim Ustruck tossed 6 scoreless frames, giving up only 2 runs in the 7th as all of the offense allowed for the day. Ex-Huskie Matt Schrader hit a grand slam HR to left off of starter Curt Pryal, which made the score 7-0 at that point. In Game 2 it was RHP Corey Berndsen (Cardinal Stritch) vs. RHP Brian Long (Carthage) and it was Long who prevailed. He threw 6 shutout innings, only to not have to take the hill in the 7th after the White Sox made it a moot point by putting the game out of reach 10-0. It seems the power in the division has possibly shifted to the White Sox, Kiwanis and the Kings. The rest of the season will determine what is the fate of the 2006 Nationals, who face the Milwaukee Mets on Tuesday for the first time.
