Nats Sweep Burlington

Posted by Steve Elliott on Jun 16 2014 at 05:00PM PDT in 2019 Season

The Nationals went on the road Saturday and accomplished a rare road sweep against the Barons at Beaumont Field winning by scores of 2-0 and 12-2.

The Nats prevailed in game one despite being held to just a single hit.  In the fourth, Jimmy Jungbauer reached second on a two base error, advanced to third on a groundout by Sam Kohnke, and scored when Curt Pryal's ground ball to short was also misplayed.  In the sixth, Jungbauer again reached on an error and later scored on a groundball hit by Jake Erfourth, which was also kicked.

Those runs proved to be enough for pitchers Hayden Krimmer and Sam Kohnke.   Krimmer threw 5 scoreless innings, allowing 2 hits while striking out 7 for the win.  Kohnke closed the game with 2 scoreless innings and 4 strikeouts, working out of bases loaded jams in both innings.

In game two, the Barons fielding woes continued.  That, coupled with a resurgent offense, generated more than enough offense for the victory.   Jake Kolasinski hit his first Nationals homer to tie the score at one and the team never looked back.  Shey Smith ripped a two run single in the nine run fourth when the Nats put the Barons away.

Jimmy Jungbauer earned the victory in the slaughter-rule shortened game.   Jungbauer threw five innings, allowing six hits while striking out four.

Next up are the Sheboygan A's at Aaron Field in Milwaukee on Thursday.  First pitch is set for 7:30pm or minutes after completion of the game scheduled previously.
