Message sent on behalf of Ian MacKenzie, President, Vancouver Hawks Field Hockey Club

Coaches, please forward to your teams.

Dear Parents,
The Vancouver Hawks Field Hockey Club is looking forward to co-hosting the U12 Boys Festival with Field Hockey BC this Saturday at Hamber. It should be a fabulous day of hockey with 14 teams playing 5-6 games each in the 2 tiers.

Thank you to those Clubs who were able to provide umpires and tech table volunteers. For schedules, click here. Without your help this tournament would not be possible. I would also like to thank Patrick Oswald who will be mentoring our junior umpires for the Black /Green/Red Hawks, Cowichan, Victoria Vampires, West Vancouver and the Falcons.

This year, we are also fortunate to have the Men’s National Team providing a BBQ between 10am and 5:30pm (weather dependent!) and a demonstration for the boys at 12pm. As you may know, the Men’s program lost $900,000 of funding from “Own the Podium” critical for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games preparations. To this end, they are hoping for your financial support via a tax receipted donation online by clicking here or via a donation at the pitch. We do hope you will be able to support them!

And finally, we will need a half hour between 12:30 – 1pm to water the pitches. Your assistance making sure the boys keep clear of the powerful jets would be greatly appreciated. And a word of warning, those on the sidelines may get wet but there will be a warning horn!

With fingers crossed for good weather, we look forward to seeing you all on Saturday!

Regards,
Ian MacKenzie
President, Vancouver Hawks Field Hockey Club

Black Hawks came to play today and proved it with over 15 short corners. The best part of the game was watching Kennedy Brown make save after save to keep the team alive. The first half saw Black Hawks making attempts at entering the D only to stopped by Darcy, chase, dominuk and mathias. The falcons were able to stop the Blackhawks for most of the first half but were unable to break out in any way with long balls or two on ones. The halftime chat was good and some long balls from Darcy, mathias and chase caught the black hawks nappin, but falcons were unable to score. After a brief few challenges falcons fell back into a defensive roll again and managed to squeeze out a tie after Kennedy made a lot of game saving chances. Well done for finding a way to grind out a tie boys. Ot some work to do for the next time we meet Black Hawks.
