DIG PINK Was a Huge Success

On October 6th, the JV and Varsity Volleyball teams played Lutheran North in the annual Dig Pink breast cancer awareness game. The JV girls fought hard, but fell short 1-2 in a close match. The Varsity girls came out sharp and never let up, defeating Lutheran North in 3 straight games to sweep the match.

For this year’s Dig Pink game, the Vikings played in celebration of Varsity volleyball mom and cancer survivor, Angela Boardman. In our efforts to create awareness for men and women to get routine check-ups and to help research teams find a cure for cancer, the Vikings raised a total of $2,100. All proceeds from the Dig Pink event will go to Houston Methodist Oncology Research.

It was an awesome night in many different ways, and the Vikings would like to thank everyone who supported the event.

The JV Volleyball has come a long way since the first weeks of the season. We have a great team filled with hard working young ladies. Damini, Zoey, and Jordan have shown great leadership as team captains. We have tough road ahead of us but I am confident that our lady has the skills and drive to take on those challenges. I often tell my team to trust the process and put value into everything that they do.

That hard work showed last night during the team’s home opener against Royal High School. The girls won game 1 of the best of 3 match, 25-20. Game 2 was also a hard fought game, but the Vikings fell just short, 23-25. The deciding game 3 was also extremely close. The girls fell down early by 3, but battled back to win 15-13! It was a great team effort all the way around and the girls showed a lot of perseverance.

The Vikings next home game is Thursday, August 25th, at 5:00PM. Come support your Lady Viking JV Volleyball team!

Words cannot express how proud I am of the JV volleyball team. In our ups, the girls supported and encouraged each other, and in our downs they still did the same. The team was fully bought into what we were trying to accomplish this year and showed clear progress throughout the season. We had so much fun this season, from playing in several tight games, to having a Halloween costume contest. I enjoyed every minute of this season and I am thankful that I was able to share it with such great girls.
