“A TIME TO REMEMBER, NOVEMBER!”

Posted by Jeffersonville Football at Oct 29, 2012 4:37AM PDT

Our team played a great game Friday night getting through the mud and those horrible weather conditions at Blair Field. We would not have been able to perform like that, in those conditions, unless we experienced what we did at Columbus East earlier this season. It prepared a few new formations, but most importantly, the value of not committing turnovers in a game with those conditions. We played a field position game and probably punted more in this game than any other. Our defense fell asleep a time or too which helped them stay in contention. Once again, we played 4 quarters and did not panic when they took the lead early in the 3rd quarter. With 6 minutes to go, it was nice to have the 3 point lead and the ball. We had good field position, and then Allen had an unbelievable run before the most entertaining timeout of the year! Hines does a pretty good re-enactment of his Head Coaches reaction as he performed it for all to see Saturday. I have to laugh at myself too, but they know how passionate I can get with the stakes so high. I expect nothing but perfection and total focus throughout this Championship week in practice. Let’s get 3 solid days of work this week boys, and remember what we are playing for Friday Night.

The schedule this week will be somewhat different. We will practice Mon- Tues-Wed from 3-5:30. On Tuesday we will not have Academic Practice this week. Wednesday, I believe we are eating Chicken from Texas Roadhouse after practice before they go Trick or Treating. On Saturday, win or lose, we will not have practice as I expect to get home late from Evansville. On that note, all you “Old Timers” reading this note, you may not want to attend this game, as both teams throw the ball a great deal and the game will not even be close to over by 9:30. I expect to see the ball in the Air at least 35 times by both teams. The weather is going to be nice and DRY, DRY, DRY, DRY and Fridley is going to throw the ball great this Friday Night too!

This Saturday mornings practice was well attended like we expected. We heard about the schedule discussed above and talked in great length about the distractions and static outside the locker room. The importance of everyone being at practice, in uniform practicing all week is a must. Here we are boy’s, we made the most important goal that we set this season, play in November. This Friday, our mission will be half accomplished by 8 PM eastern time, Kickoff for the Sectional Final @ Castle. With the Sectional Championship in the wake, we need to have a great week of practice. It is obviously going to be a tough challenge going against an undefeated team. Based upon our statistical rating we are 20 point underdogs to the #9 ranked Castle Knights. At church today, I reminded everyone that we are playing an undefeated team, but I also said, “They Ain’t Played US yet!” We know we can to this, so remember to bring your “bodybags” for those “knights”!

The countdown till Friday Night Continues! Are We READY????

“NO DOUBT LEFT”

Posted by Jeffersonville Football at Oct 21, 2012 6:39PM PDT

49 First half points, Incredible! Just two years ago they put up 60 on us. At halftime, we new 60 was attainable, and we needed the record of most points scored at Blair Field, not New Albany. This record may stand for a while too. What an action packed game from the start! New Albany came ready to play and caused us some early stress. Our reaction was priceless as no one panicked. We stayed with the game plan and executed well throughout the four quarter game. I will admit, the only thing that “shocked” me was them trying to hurry up their offense. They stayed in a no huddle look most of the game and this helped them speed up their possessions. By doing this, plus the two Kickoff recoveries, it allowed us to run more offensive plays! We ran 84 total offensive plays to their 42! Thus, 62-35, ONE FOR THE AGES!
Did the news and tribune really say it was going to be close based upon our last two games? “Come On Man” Did we leave any doubt of who the best team in this town has been all year long? We have consistently performed at a high level throughout this season and still get no respect from outside sources. What is it with Jeffersonville? What stigma does our name carry? In two short seasons we have went from one and nine to a run for a sectional title. Our team and family support has been great these last few weeks. Keep it up as, “WE get to…” “WE get to…” “WE get to…” Practice another week and play on Friday night at home. Please tell everyone about the great weather forecast for Friday! Be sure they come out to watch, a 2ndROUND, HOME SECTIONAL, FOOTBALL PLAYOFF GAME!!!!!!
Thanks to all for the turnout for the pancake breakfast this Saturday! I had a great time watching everyone enjoy talking about the Victory! Please, watch it this week on TV as it will play all week. I personally haven’t seen it yet, but I have been told they spoke highly of us throughout the game and the post game report was outstanding! Please remember to stay positive throughout OUR weekly routine as we strive for our goal of reaching NOVEMBER! Playoff time is here, and it is time to, “FEAR the FORK”!!! The countdown till Friday Night continues!

“Loser Leave Town”

Posted by Jeffersonville Football at Oct 15, 2012 7:20AM PDT

You parents, like me, should be old enough to remember the WAVE 3 TV wrestling with Jerry “the king” Lawyer and Billy Dundee on Saturday mornings live from Louisville Gardens. Can you also remember watching them on black and white TV! Really, NO color on our TV’s boys! Anyway, they would have what you call a Loser leave town Match! Obviously, the loser had to leave and not comeback! (But somehow they always stayed around or was brought back to add more drama in this make believe world of professional wrestling) I just want to say, Come Friday Night, we are not ready to leave this town or locker room anytime soon! In fact, this TEAMS’S FOCUS, OUR TEAM, have made some preparations to “REMEMBER NOVEMBER”!
Were here!! This is what we have been waiting for since last season. As we look forward to the challenges each week of these playoffs, we can look back on the successful campaign of this regular season. We finished the regular season at 7-2. A great accomplishment and reward for all the hard work and sacrifice we put into this season since June the 4th. That’s right, way back in JUNE! Some people are ready for it to be over! ?? We can’t be so narrow minded and mentally tired! We know we have plenty of unmet goals to attain this post season. This time of the SEASON that is reward time! You are rewarded each week based upon Friday Night’s performance! With each win… WE get to…. WE get to… WE get to… WE get to… come in on Saturday mornings and eat donuts, lift and watch film. Then WE get to…… spend time with one another for another week of practice on Mon-Tues-Wed, WE get to…. Take off Thursday for our rest day. THEN! WE get to…… BEAT NEW ALBANY on our big performance night THIS FRIDAY!!!
WHAT A WEEK OF FUN! PLEASE, remember to continue to pick your son up and be excited about OUR team success! You parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, cousins, family and community are all a Hugh contributing factor in this playoff campaign. Let’s stay positive on the home front with encouragement! Don’t let your routine become a drag on you or US! Be encouragers about practice and this season as our boy’s are dreaming of playing for a while longer!!!!! In fact, WE need some special treats maybe on Wednesdays before and after practice. How about some “Bulldog Brownie’s” smothered with RED DEVIL icing? Sound good? I am sure you parents can come up with something else too! Please coordinate these efforts through Melodie Fridley. Many thanks to her as well, for all she has done this season too! She has done a great deal “of stuff” behind the scenes and is a valuable “TEAM MEMBER”! Her contact information is melodief@saintfrancisinthefields.org or her cell # @ 812-987-4312.
In closing, we are having our pancake breakfast at Boardwalk Burgers and Fries this Saturday. This will be a great way to celebrate our Team Victory over New Albany this Friday night. Please plan to attend and remember that this is for our team! (OUR TEAM FAMILY includes-Freshman-JV-Varsity +Coaches, Parents, Siblings, relatives and…. Community!) Each players $10 dollars are due on Wed. at roll call. You can sell more if you wish. Players eat Free on Saturday. Pancakes are being served from 8:30-9:45! Finally, but most important, we had a great response to our Sunday outing, as we said thanks to those at Oak Park Baptist Church! We are thankful for what they and “HE” provides for us on Wednesday’s and Friday’s! As always, call me at 502-773-8500 or email me at loldham@gcs.k12.in.us with any questions and concerns.
WE get to… WE get to.. WE get to..?
? Countdown to Friday Night!
Thanks for allowing me to Serve You in this role. Coach Oldham
