FIRST EVER WOMEN'S SUMMER LACROSSE LEAGUE

Posted by Jay Hertzler at May 26, 2018 7:36AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Lady Titan LAX Family,

I just received this email from our KC Metro Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) representative, who is also the head lacrosse coach for the Blue Valley Girls team. This looks like a wonderful opportunity for players to get some lacrosse in over the summer in a small-game format. I will not be coordinating, so if you are interested, reach out to teammates and build a couple of teams and have fun!!!. Information below:

KC Women’s Lacrosse Summer League

Sponsored by: FCA Lacrosse Midwest

Hey KC Women’s Lax!

Get excited for Kansas City’s first ever summer women’s lacrosse league. My name is Kallie (Britton) Muck and I grew up playing lacrosse for the BV Titans as well as local club teams before having the opportunity to play NCAA Division I lacrosse back east at Liberty University. I moved back in the area and had the chance to coach the JV and Varsity BV Titans this spring. I am excited to be back in the area to help the sport of lacrosse grow!

I currently serve as the Director of FCA Lacrosse Midwest; my desire is to fill the needs of coaches as well as the lacrosse community as a whole. And one of those needs seems to be providing playing opportunities for adults (those who are 18 years and older). Engaging women as coaches, players, and ambassadors will improve the game and the lacrosse culture for future players here in Kansas City.

We are now accepting full team, small groups, and / or individual players “free agents.” If you are signing up solo we will place you on a team. All players 18 and older are welcome to join the league. We also invite graduating 2018 high school seniors.

Hello Lady Titan LAX Family,

As we go into the last week of the school year, I wanted to send out the final email until we start lacrosse back up in September. I know I’ll see most of you this Tuesday evening for the End of Season LAX Banquet, but I also wanted to express my appreciation for a phenomenal 2018 season. Last Thursday we played our Boy’s vs Girl’s game, and I think all the players had a wonderful time…and judging by some of the laughing from the stands, it sounded like the parents were having fun too. I am glad we had a chance to get that game in…it’s always a favorite event of the players.

Here is what’s coming up for this week:

Monday 21 MAY – Nothing
Tuesday 22 MAY – End of Season LAX Banquet. Dinner will be served at 6pm in the LSW Commons. We are scheduled to start our actual banquet at 7:30pm in Bateman Hall. This will be the first year we use this format of both the boys and girls eating at 6pm, then splitting up into 2 separate places for our actual banquet. This year, the boys will be in the PAC, and we will be in Bateman Hall. I have attached the RSVP form just in case you have not turned one in yet. Please make sure to get this form (with payment) to Mr. Rasdall ASAP if you have not paid.

After the banquet, we’ll be officially done. This is always a tough time of year for me because we have been going full speed for months, only for it to come to a screeching halt. My plan is to relax over the summer and be ready to go on Sept 11th, which is the first day of indoor lacrosse at Lakeland Community Church. I hope to see all of you there…recruit and bring new players if you can.

For those of you interested in summer lacrosse, make sure you do your research and join a club that fits you best. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to me.

Thank you again for everything this season. I feel both lucky and blessed to be a part of this program, and I have all of you to thank for that. Go Titans!!!

See you Tuesday.
~Coach Jay

Lady Titan LAX Family.

Wow, what a season! That seems to be the first thing to comes to mind as I type this to you. This season was one of the most difficult and the most exciting seasons I have coached in the 8 seasons here at LSW. First, I want to say my heart-felt “Thank you’s” to the coaching staff, the players, parents, Mr. Rasdall, and the LSW Lacrosse Board for helping us throughout the season. I am truly blessed to be surrounded by such great people.

Looking back at the season, so many great memories that come to mind are the “ice bowl” when we played Shawnee Mission in single-digit wind chills, the St. Louis and Columbia trips, and the playoff games we played just this past week. We were never short of drama, laughs and excitement for sure. This group of girls seemed to really enjoy each other’s company, and it’s that culture we had this season that makes me so happy to be coaching for this team.

This season will mark the end of an era for our coaching staff. After 5 seasons with us, Coach Chris Cook will be stepping down as the Defensive Assistant Coach so he can cheer on his daughter Cookie at Rockhurst University. Chris is responsible for putting together one of the most formidable and consistent defensive squads with multiple All-Metro players through his time as a coach, and is also responsible for many wins for us due to our high level of conditioning. I want to express my gratitude to Chris for his passion, work ethic and phenomenal coaching style that worked so well with the players over the last 5 seasons with us and during his time as a youth lacrosse coach. His presence on the field and on the sideline will truly be missed.
This season will also mark the end of another era. After 4 seasons with us as the Attack Assistant Coach, Brian “Whistle, Whistle” Cox will be hanging up his coaching whistle to take a well-deserved break from coaching after years with youth lax, being the first Head Coach at LSHS, and then with us at LSW. He will remain on the KC Metro League board in his current position of VP of High School Competition, so I’ll be lucky enough to cross paths with him from time to time. Brian put together a great high-flying offense that consistently produced over 100 goals per season and helped our team become one of the most dangerous and exciting teams in the metro. His coaching has also produced All-Metro players, and this season built an offense that had 5 different players scoring double-digit goals over the season. A former adversary while at LSHS, and now friend, I want to say “Thank you” to Coach Brian for all he has done for our team and our league over the last 4 years with us and also during your years in the youth lacrosse program. The words “Whistle, whistle” and “Again, again” will always hold a special place with us.

As you can now see, the best and most consistent coaching staff will be short a couple of coaches. I will be looking for replacements over the next couple of months as we have to start thinking about next season. If you are interested in discussing the position, feel free to call me at 816-977-5707.

Now that we are about to head into the summer (woo hoo!), let me give you a quick look at what’s coming up:
- Boys vs Girls Lacrosse Game – We are still working out the details, but as of right now mark your calendars for Thursday 17 MAY at 5pm. We will be playing on the girl’s practice field right behind the tennis courts. Parents and family are more than welcome to come watch. This had been an annual tradition for years and we had not done it over the last 2 seasons because both teams had been going deep into the playoffs. This season produced an opportunity for us to do it, so we are going to try it.
- Tuesday 22 May is our end of year Lacrosse Banquet. You should have seen communication for it from the LSW Lacrosse Board

Summer Lacrosse Opportunities
I have been approach by quite a few of you asking about summer lacrosse opportunities. There are several clubs in the area, and I try not to favor one over the other. I suggest you take any advice I give you and couple that with some additional research to find the best fit. Here’s what I suggest:

New Players
If you are coming off of your first or second season, I suggest signing up with Blue Lion Lacrosse club, and concentrating on the Summer Practice portion on Tues & Thurs from 6:30pm – 8:00pm at Avila University. Use that time to get instruction from other coaches, college coaches and/or players to build your fundamentals. Signing up for summer tournaments can be an option, but working on fundamentals should be your priority. Their website is http://bluelionslax.com/ for more information.

Veteran Players
For those that have multiple years of lacrosse under your belt, I would suggest either Fountain City or Midwestern Force. These clubs are more tournament-based with practices leading up to tournaments, and these clubs will travel and play against some fierce competition.

Fall Indoor
I have already reserved Lakeland Community Church’s field for fall indoor. Mark your calendars for every Tuesday night from 8-10pm from 11 SEPT – 30 OCT. This is a good time for new players to join us to learn the game, so if anyone is recruiting new players, get them to come to this. It’s truly the best time for new players to learn the fundamentals.

That’s it for now. Have a wonderful summer. Hopefully I’ll see everyone on the 22nd for the banquet. If you have not turned in your RSVP and money to Mr. Rasdall, please do that ASAP so we can properly order the right amount of food.

Thank you again for a wonderful season.

~Coach Jay

Other logistics:

Gate fee:
$5 for each adult per night … college coaches, high school students and children free. The gate fee is to help offset the cost of field rental. Please let your parents know to expect the gate fee.

Spectators:
At Rockhurst, all spectators will be required to be in the stands on the East side of the field. No non-participants are allowed in or around the driveway area on the West side of the field. In past years, we had a challenge with spectators sitting behind the benches. Please emphasize that the West side is for players and coaches only.
If your team’s fans are sitting on the West side, you will be asked to request they move to to spectator seating.
Each team is responsible for the behavior of its spectators. Verbal abuse of officials, players or coaches will not be allowed. Please remind your teams and spectators that good sportsmanship is required.
Scorer’s table:

Each team is responsible for keeping its own scorebook. The highest seeds’ scorebook will be considered the official scorebook. Disputes will be settled by the league-provided field manager or ranking board member.
Each team can have two people at the scorer’s table (one to keep the book and one to spot). No coaching from the scorer’s table please.

Concession stand:
No concession stand is planned. Outside food is allowed into the stadium.

Trainer:
A trainer will be provided by the league at no cost to the participating teams.

Weather:
The games will be played in rain. 30 minute delay for lightning. All efforts will be made to play the games as scheduled. As a last resort, organizers may move game times and days as required by weather or unforeseen circumstances.
The schedule was developed with an eye toward avoiding major schedule conflicts for teams. However, if a team is unable to play a scheduled game, the losing team from its previous game will advance in the bracket. For instance, if Team A defeats Team B in round one, but Team A is unable to field a team for round two, Team B will advance to round two. If one of the top 6 seeds is unable to play its first game, the seventh place team in the standings will be invited to play in the tournament.
Volunteer opportunities … free admission for volunteers if they are scheduled in advance:

Admission gate … need 2-3 people per night to work the gate to collect gate fees at Rockhurst. League to provide table, but bring your own chairs.
If you have volunteers, please send names, what they volunteer for, email addresses, and available days to briancox2468@gmail.com. The goal is to have volunteers work for at least one night (two games) instead of game-by-game if possible.

Let’s finish strong everyone!!!

***PLEASE READ*** PLAYOFF WEEK DETAILS

Posted by Jay Hertzler at May 4, 2018 7:28AM PDT ( 0 Comments )

Lady Titans LAX Family,

Wow! What a game last night, and what a season. We are about to start the playoff week starting Sunday. I have posted the Tournament schedule and details below so parents can start planning accordingly.

Our Varsity finished at the 5th seed based on the 1-goal loss to LSN last night. We will play our Quarterfinal on Tuesday evening at Rockhurst Univ. at 7:30pm. I would like all players at Rock U’s stadium no later than 6:30pm to start getting ready.

Our JV team is currently in 1st place in the metro, and we have a game tonight at 6pm vs STA. Based on the results of that game, we will either be the 1st or 2nd seed, but we will play on Sunday regardless.
By no means should we ever believe that either of these teams are not capable of winning the championship. In the JV level, we have been the dominant team all season, and have been undefeated since our last loss vs SM. At the Varsity level, we have had so many close games (1,2,3 goal losses) that if a couple of different things happen (i.e better refs, 1 or 2 more goalie saves, 1 or 2 shots that don’t miss the goal, etc…) that we can win those games vs losing them. We are capable of anything with this group of young ladies, and I am excited to see how this week plays out.

Here’s the Tournament Schedule:
*Home (higher seed) wears light colors / Away (lower seed) wears dark colors: *

• Sunday, May 6 at Blue Valley Northwest
JV game semi-final seed 1 v 4 — 4:00
JV game semi-final seed 2 v 3 — 5:00

• Tuesday, May 8 at Rockhurst Univ
Varsity quarterfinal 3 — Seed 3 v 6 — 5:30
Varsity quarterfinal 4 — Seed 4 v 5 — 7:30

• Wednesday, May 9 at Rockhurst Univ
Varsity semifinal game 1 — winner quarterfinal 1 vs winner quarterfinal 4 — 5:30
Varsity semifinal game 2 — winner quarterfinal 2 vs winner quarterfinal 3 — 7:30

• Thursday, May 10 at Rockhurst Univ
JV championship game — 5:30
Varsity championship game — 7:30

Venue Addresses:
• Rockhurst University, Bourke Field (turf), 1100 Rockhurst Road, Kansas City, MO 64110
• Blue Valley Northwest, 13260 Switzer Rd, Overland Park, KS 66213 (it will be at the football stadium)
