Hello Lady Titan LAX family,

I have been asked by more than one set of parents on whether their daughter should consider wearing a helmet or not when playing lacrosse.

First: The direction from US Lacrosse is that they feel there is no statistical proof that wearing a helmet actually lowers the probability of sustaining a concussion, thus they have not mandated wearing helmets in the girl’s lacrosse game.

Having said that, it’s my opinion that the statistics do not account for piece of mind. I can tell you that I have noticed a trend in the last few seasons in this league that the girl’s lacrosse game is getting faster and rougher. If I had a daughter playing, my decision as a father would be to have her wear a helmet based on these trends.

So, here’s my recommendation in case any of the parents within our lacrosse family are asking the same question:

It is my opinion that I will NOT require a helmet for players as long as US Lacrosse does not require one, especially considering the additional cost of a helmet vs a set of goggles ($120 vs $50), but I will NOT fault any parent for wanting to purchase a helmet if it brings them piece of mind …but the purchase of a helmet will be completely optional. Just please make sure you purchase an approved helmet if you are going to buy one. I can give you recommendations if you want.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving week, and I hope everyone was able to get through the super storm we had yesterday. This is Registration week, so this is going to be my “get ready for Registration” email, which is going to look a lot like the other Registration emails.

The things I am asking you to take care of now should make the registration process go much smoother when you come see us in person on Saturday morning.

First and foremost, let’s get the online registration part done. My estimates have 27 returning players from last season, and as of this morning we have 9 who have completed the online registration. It’s the easiest part of the process, and it can be done in the comfort of your own home.

This can be done one of several ways:
#1: Via the Teampages Website:
Log into your Teampages profile.
When you are on the main LSW Girls LAX page, you’ll see a banner on the right-hand side with the Registration Link on it…that should get you to the correct page.
#2: Copy and paste:
Copy the link and paste it into a new browser window.

Secondly, have your US Lacrosse membership up to date. We will ask that the membership be current through at least 1 JUNE 2019 when you come to the in-person registration, so if this is taken care of before you arrive, it’s one less thing you’ll have to worry about.

Third, whether you are a new player or a returning player, we need you to come to one of the in-person registration dates. Here are the dates again:

• 1 DEC from 9am – 1pm at LSW Bateman Hall
• 5 DEC from 5pm – 8pm at the LSW Library and Media Center

All new players MUST attend one of these in-person sessions to get properly sized for a uniform, choose their jersey number from available numbers and submit payment. Hint – if you come to the 1 DEC session, you have better odds on getting the jersey number you want.

All returning players MUST attend one of these in-person sessions to submit your payment.

Also, there will be spirit wear for sale during these in-person registration sessions, so it would be a great time to get some new “swag” or place an order for one of those super-cool Boathouse jackets that all the cool people wear. Personally, I am getting one of the new LSW Titans Lacrosse scarfs. I have also attached the flyer for this season’s batch of spirit wear for you to look at if you want to order anything on Saturday.

Here are the expected costs for the 2019 season:

• All Players – Club Due – $225
• New Players – Uniform – $101 (We may be going with a new sock provider, so all players may be asked to buy new socks. The new cost is still TBD)
• All Players – US Lacrosse Membership. Whether a new or returning player, all players must have a current membership that will be valid until at least 1 JUNE 2019. You can go to www.uslacrosse.org and choose Join/Renew. Cost is $35 via credit card to US Lacrosse. The LSW LAX club does not take payment for this. While completing this process, when it asks for a what club you are a part of, choose “KC Metro Girls Lacrosse”

I know I have been talking about registration quite a bit lately, but this is one of the most important events in the lacrosse season, so I want to make sure we get this done as efficiently as possible. I am going to ask all of you for help in getting all of this done as quickly as possible so when January rolls around, all we have to worry about is winning championships.
