Led by the hitting of 12 year old slugger, Ray Zincone, the Orioles captured the 2010 WWCRL Championship with a 7-6 come from behind victory over the Red Sox.

Zincone, who was a one man hitting machine for the Orioles throughout the playoffs (two singles, one double, three triples, two home runs, and 13 r.b.i.'s), hit two home runs (five r.b.i.'s) to lead the O's past the Red Sox, the Cinderella Story of the 2010 playoffs.

After starting pitcher, Trevor Lawton, retired the Red sox with two strikeouts in the top of the first inning, the Orioles took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the inning when Trevor Lawton doubled and scored when Zincone hit a two run blast over the rightfield fence. 

In the top of the second inning, the Red Sox scored one run when Anthony Herrera doubled and scored two batters later on a fielder's choice by Ryan Blais.

In the top of the third inning, the Red Sox took the lead 4-2 when Nick D'Ambra (single) and Andrew D'Ambrosca (walk) scored on Tyler Boisclair's three run home run to centerfield.

In the bottom of third inning, the Orioles came right back with two runs on singles by Zincone and Hunter Dean to tie the game at 4-4.

The Red Sox, who opportunistically won four games during the playoffs, continued the oportunistic ways in the top of the fourth inning.  After Noah Valenti-Ochs and Mike Tetrault walked, Nick D'Ambra singled to load the bases.  After one out, Tyler Boisclair provided the Red Sox with a timely hit by lining a two run double to right-center. 

In the bottom of the fourth inning, however, the clock struck midnight on the Red Sox magical run through the WWCRL playoffs when Ray Zincone hit an opposite field three run home run to put the Orioles ahead for good, 7-6. 
 
Trevor Lawton, who picked up the victory by striking out eight batters and walking eight batters, found his pitching groove at the right time by striking out the side with runners at first and second base in the top of the fifth inning.
 
Hunter Dean picked up the save by striking out one batter and inducing two groundouts to third baseman, Jared Rossignoll, to end the game.

Oriole Notables:  Ray Zincone and Trevor Lawton ended their final season as two of the league’s finest sluggers.  At the plate, the dangerous duo combined for 81 hits, 75 runs, and 82 r.b.i.’s.  Trevor Lawton finished the year batting .759 (41/54 with fifteen doubles, four triples, ten home runs, 33 runs scored, and 43 r.b.i.’s) and Zincone, who was one of the Rhode Island Rays (NEAAU Super Division Regional Champions) top hitters this season, finished his final year with a batting average of .784 (40/51 with nine doubles, eight triples, seven home runs, 42 runs scored, and 39 r.b.i.’s).

Red Sox Notables:  Tyler Boisclair, who missed several regular season games, ended his final season with a batting average of .600 (36/60 with twelve doubles, three triples, nine home runs, 32 runs scored, and 40 r.b.i.’s).  The slugging right handed hitter, who was one of the top sluggers on the Rhode Island Rays’ New England Champions, also, led the Red Sox in pitching during the playoffs.  During the Red Sox six game trek (4-2) thru the playoffs, Boisclair worked an amazing 16 innings.  The Red Sox, who scored 54 runs in six playoff games, opportunistically took advantage of free passes and errors throughout the double elimination tournament.  The first two batters in the Red Sox line up, Nick D’Ambra and Andrew D’Ambrosca, not only reached base 19 times via the walk, but combined to score 19 runs in six games.

The Red Sox continued their “Cinderella” run through the West Warwick Cal Ripken playoffs with an exciting come from behind victory in extra innings over the Athletics, 7-5.

The victory puts the Red Sox (4-1 in the double elimination tournament and 8-12 overall) in the finals for the second straight year.

The loss put an end to a remarkable season and exciting stretch of baseball for the Athletics (2-2 in the double elimination tournament and 12-7 overall).  The Athletics, who finished third place, rebounded from a 0-3 start and won 12 of their last 16 games. 
 
In the top of the first inning, the Red Sox took a 1-0 lead when Nick D’Ambra walked, moved to second on a passed ball, and scored when Tyler Boisclair’s grounder was mishandled by the Athletic infield.
 
In the bottom of the first inning, the Athletics rallied for two runs on a double by Andrew In, a walk by Stanley Paulino, and a two run triple by Matt Grenier.
 
In the bottom of the second inning, the Athletics took a 3-1 lead when Stanley Paulino reached on an error with two outs and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  After moving to third base on a wild pitch, he scored when the throw to third base went into left field.
 
The game stayed at 3-1 until the top of the fifth inning.  With one out, the Red Sox reached base on three consecutive walks.  Unfortunately for starting pitcher, Andrew In, and reliever, Matt Grenier, the Athletics committed back to back infield errors, allowing four unearned runs to cross the plate and turning the momentum of the game on Red Sox side.   

The Athletics, however, fought back in the bottom of the sixth inning.  Ryan Johnson led off with a single to centerfield.  After Ryan Blais struck out a batter, Andrew In walked to put runners at first and second.  After Blais struck out his second batter of the inning, Matt Grenier tied the game up at 5-5 when he lined a double down the right field line. 
 
In the top of the seventh inning, the Red Sox rallied for two runs on two walks, an r.b.i. ground out by Tyler Boisclair and an r.b.i. double by Mitchell Moore.
 
Although the Athletics put two runners on in the bottom of the seventh inning, Blais induced a ground out and struck out two batters to end the game.
 
The Red Sox received solid pitching from a trio of pitchers.  Boisclair, who worked the first four innings, struck out nine batters and allowed just two earned runs on three hits.  Moore worked one inning of shutout ball and Blais, who picked up the victory, struck out five batters and allowed just two earned runs on three hits.
 
The Athletics received two hit pitching from Andrew In and Matt Grenier.  In 4 1/3 innings of work, Andrew In struck out eight batters and allowed no earned runs on one hit.  Grenier, who was pitching in his third game in six days, struck out five batters and allowed two runs on one hit in 2 2/3 innings of work.
 
Offensively, the Red Sox, who received their only hits of the game from Boisclair (double) and Moore (r.b.i. double), received support from Nick D’Ambra (three walks and three runs scored), Andrew D’Ambrosca (two walks and one run scored), and Mike Tetrault (two walks and two runs scored).
 
The Athletics were led by Matt Grenier (one double, one triple, and four r.b.i.’s), Andrew In (one double and two runs scored), Stanley Paulino (two runs scored), Logan Chapman (bunt single), Allen Flyntz (sacrifice bunt), Matt Reid (three walks and one single), and Ryan Johnson (one single and one run scored).  

Red Sox Notables: With Stanley Paulino on first base in the bottom of the fifth inning, Mike Tetrault robbed Matt Grenier of his third extra base hit of the game.  The eleven year old All Star tracked down Grenier’s line drive in the left center gap. 12 year old All Star Mitchell Moore continued his hot playoff hitting; in five playoff games, Moore has hit over .500 with four singles, three doubles, and five runs batted in.  Tyler Boisclair, the 12 year old workhorse of the Red Sox, leads all playoff pitchers with 14 innings pitched.        

Athletic Notables:  Andrew In and Matt Grenier, who were key members of the Athletics WWCRL championship as ten year olds in 2008, ended their Cal Ripken careers with a sensational 2010 season.  On the mound, the duo combined for 122 strikeouts and only 33 walks in 53 1/3 innings pitched.  Andrew In, who worked 32 2/3 innings, struck out 71 batters and walked only 20.  Matt Grenier, who won five games and pitched 42 2/3 innings for the Rhode Island Rays (NEAAU Super Division Regional Champions) this spring, struck out 51 batters and gave up only three earned runs in 20 2/3 innings of limited work.  At the plate, the tandem combined for 65 hits, 56 runs, and 53 r.b.i.’s.  Andrew In finished the year batting .466 (27/58 with four doubles, two triples, three home runs, and 34 runs scored) and Grenier, playing in his fifth and final year at the Major Division level, batted .667 (38/57 with eight doubles, six triples, two home runs, and 40 r.b.i.’s).

Led by the hitting and pitching of twelve year old Ray Zincone, the first place Orioles (15-2) advanced to the WWCRL championship by breaking open a one run game in the bottom of the fourth inning over the third place Athletics (12-6).
 
On the mound, Zincone struck out six batters, walked one, and allowed only one hit in three innings of work.  At the plate, Zincone led the Oriole’s seven hit attack with two hits (r.b.i. triple and two run single), two runs scored, three r.b.i.’s, and three stolen bases.
 
In the bottom of the first inning, the Orioles took a 3-0 lead on two extra base hits and one walk.  Trevor Lawton took a hanging curve and hit the scoreboard in left-center for a solo home run.  Ernie Wright, then, walked and scored on Ray Zincone’s sun-blast triple over the A’s right fielder.  Two outs later, Zincone scored on a wild pitch.
 
In the top of the second inning, the Athletics rallied and loaded the bases with two walks (Logan Chapman and Ryan Johnson) and one hit (Alex Hernandez).  Hunter Dean, however, ended the threat by striking out two batters and inducing one pop up. 
 
In the bottom of the second inning, Matt Grenier came into the game with the Orioles threatening for more runs.  After Rob Riveira walked and Tim Fournier singled with one out, Grenier induced one ground out and struck out a batter to end the inning.
 
In the top of the third inning, the Athletics rallied for two runs on two hits, two walks, and one error.  Andrew In led off the inning with a home run over the right field fence.  After one out, Matt Grenier was walked on four pitches.  Jason Malette followed with a single to right field, advancing Grenier to third base.  Grenier scored the second run of the inning when Logan Chapman’s grounder to second base was mishandled.  After Matt Reid walked to load the bases, Trevor Lawton came into the game and struck out the final two batters to end the A’s rally.
 
In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Orioles broke the game open with six runs on four singles, one walk, and one error for a 9-2 lead.  Providing the hits for the O’s were Billy Holihen (lead-off single), Billy Rae Singpracha (bunt single), Ernie Wright (r.b.i. single), and Ray Zincone (two run single to centerfield). 
 
Zincone and Wright combined to strike out six consecutive batters to end the fifth and sixth inning.
   
The Orioles, the regular season champions, are now one game away from the WWCRL championship.  The Athletics, who had an eight game winning streak which ironically started with a 4-2 regular season victory over the Orioles, need to win in the Loser’s Bracket Final against the “Cinderella” Red Sox (fifth place) to get another opportunity to upset the Orioles and force a winner take all final game.

The Cinderella story of the Red Sox playoff run continued with another upset victory over the Marlins.  The Red Sox, who won only four regular season games, won their third game of the playoffs to advance to the Loser’s Bracket Finals against the Athletics.
 
Down 3-0 after 2 ½ innings, the Red Sox erupted for five runs in the bottom of the third inning and pulled away from the fourth place Marlins.
 
In the top of the first inning, the Marlins took a 3-0 lead when Brian Moretti and Jared Shibley walked and scored on Joe Maynard’s double.  Maynard scored one out later when Anthony Moretti reached on an error.
 
In the bottom of the third inning, Nick D’Ambra led off with a walk, advanced to second when Andrew D’Ambrosca reached on an error, and scored when Tyler Boisclair lined a single to right field.  Mitchell Moore followed with a two run double to right center to tie the game at 3-3.  Anthony Herrera, then launched a triple to the fence to score Moore.  Herrera scored the Red Sox fifth run when the Marlins missed their cut off.
 
Tyler Boisclair, who picked up the victory, entered the game in the fifth inning.  In two innings of relief, the right hander allowed just one run and struck out one batter. 
 
Offensively, the Red Sox received contributions from Nick D’Ambra (three walks and two runs scored), Andrew D’Ambrosca (one run scored), Tyler Boisclair (one single and one run scored), Mitchell Moore (one single, one double, and one run scored), Anthony Herrera (one triple and one run scored), and Jacob Valenti-Ochs (one walk).
 
Offensively, the Marlins were led by Brian Moretti (four walks and two runs scored), Jared Shibley (one run scored and one walk), and Joe Maynard (one single, one double, and one triple).

In the Quarter-Final round of the Loser's Bracket, the Marlins held off a late Dodger rally, 13-10, to advance the Loser's Bracket Semi-Finals.                

In the top of the first inning, the upset-minded Dodgers scored two runs on one error and a double by Mike Pellerin and a r.b.i. single to the fence by Matt Hopper.                

The Marlins came right back in the bottom of the first inning with four runs on one walk (Brian Moretti), and three hits by Jared Shibley (single), Joe Maynard (single), Nathaniel Snow (double), and Nick Pecchia (single).                

In the top of the second inning, the Dodgers took a 6-4 lead on hits by Jason Rutter (single), Joe Capuano (single), Jason Paquette (single), and Kyle Henseler (single).                  

The Marlins tied it at 6-6 when Jared Shibley (walk) and Joe Maynard (reached on an error) scored on Nathaniel Snow's second hit of the game.                

After falling behind 7-6, the Dodgers re-took the lead, 10-7 on hits by Jason Paquette (single), Mike Pellerin (double), Matt Hopper (single), and Jason Rutter (single).                

In the bottom of the fourth inning the Marlins took the lead for good, when they scored six runs on three walks (Dylon Oliveira, Mike Charnley, and Jared Shibley), one hit batsmen (Brian Moretti), and timely hits by Joe Maynard (bases clearing triple) and Nathaniel Snow (double).                  

Offensively, the Marlins were led by Nick Pecchia (four singles) and Nathaniel Snow (two doubles and one single).                

The Dodgers were led by Matt Hopper (three singles) and Mike Pellerin (two doubles).   Centreville Bank Red Sox 15

The Red Sox, the 2009 WWCRL playoff champions, kept their dream of back to back championships with a pulsating 15-11 upset win over the Yankees (12-5), the WWCRL regular season runner-up.                

In the top of the first inning, the Red Sox jumped out to a 3-0 lead on two walks (Andrew D’Ambrosca and Tyler Boisclair), one error, and an r.b.i. single by Mitchell Moore.                

After Tyler Boisclair retired the Yankees in the bottom of the first inning, the Red Sox scored three more runs with two outs in the top of the second inning.  Nick D’Ambra (single) and Andrew D’Ambrosca (walk) scored when Tyler Boisclair launched a triple to right center.  Boisclair scored the Red Sox sixth run on Mitchell Moore’s second hit of the game.                 

After left hander Tom Doran prevented the Red Sox from scoring in the top of the third inning, the Yankees cut the lead to 6-2 when Jason LaRose (walk) and Caleb Hoyle (single) scored when David LaMountain’s grounder was mishandled.                

 Trailing 8-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning after giving up two unearned runs, the Yankees fought back with three runs on an error, two walks (Jason LaRose and Thomas Belrose), and two hits by Matt DeFusco (r.b.i. single) and Caleb Hoyle (r.b.i. double).                 

 In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Yankees continued their comeback with two more runs on four walks (Matt Gambardella, Alex Cabral, Jason LaRose, and Mike DeFusco).                

After Mike DeFusco retired the Red Sox in the top of the sixth inning, the Yankees completed their comeback with one run on a single by Dave LaMountain and an error to send the game into extra innings at 8-8.                

 In the top of the seventh inning, the Red Sox, however, scored seven runs on two errors, one walk, and hits by Tyler Boisclair (two run single), Anthony Herrera (r.b.i. single), Jacob Valenti-Ochs (r.b.i. single), and Mitchell Moore (r.b.i. single).                   

 In the bottom of the seventh inning, the Yankees rallied for four runs on hits by Mike DeFusco (single), Tom Doran (single), David Gaipo (single), and Matt Gambardella (single).                  

Their rally, however, was trumped by ten year old Andrew D’Ambrosca, who induced two groundouts to end the game.

In the second round of the WWCRL playoffs, the Orioles (14-2) held off the upset-minded Red Sox, 10-6.                

Leading the way for the Orioles were Trevor Lawton, who struck out 12 batters in five innings of work, and Ray Zincone (two triples, one double, and five r.b.i.’s).                  

In the top of the first inning, the Red Sox jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Tyler Boisclair doubled and scored on a Mitchell Moore single.                

In the bottom of the first inning, the Orioles took a 3-1 lead on hits by Ray Zincone (triple) and Trevor Lawton (single).                  

In the bottom of the second inning, the Orioles built a 7-1 lead when Zincone hit a bases clearing double to score Billy Holihen, Rob Riveira, and Tim Fournier.  After two outs, Zincone scored when an errant throw to third base went into left field.                

In the top of the fourth inning, the Red Sox closed the gap to 7-3 when Anthony Herrera and Jacob Valenti-Ochs singled to score Jordan Hendricks and Noah Valenti-Ochs.                   In the top of the fifth inning, the Red Sox continue to inch closer with three runs on one walk (Anthony Herrera), one single (Mitchell Moore), and two doubles by Tyler Boisclair and Ryan Blais.                

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Orioles received three insurance runs on a walk to Ernie Wright, a triple by Ray Zincone, a single by Hunter Dean, and one three base error.                  

Ernie Wright put a clamp on the Red Sox comeback by allowing one hit in the top of the sixth inning.                 

Offensively, the Red Sox were led by Boisclair (two doubles and two runs scored), Moore (two singles and two r.b.i.’s), Herrera (one single and two runs scored), Valenti-Ochs (one single and one run scored), and Blais (one three run double).

Led by the pitching and hitting of twelve year olds Matthew Grenier and Andrew In, the Athletics (12-5), who finished third place during the regular season, upset the second place Yankees, 9-1.                

Grenier and In combined on a three hitter.  Grenier, who retired eight batters in a row from the first inning to the fourth inning, earned the by striking out 10 batters and allowing just one unearned run on two infield singles.  In, who worked the final two innings, struck out five batters and allowed just one single.                  

In addition to their combined 15 strikeout performance against the league’s highest scoring team, the tandem also combined for six hits and six r.b.i.’s.                

In the top of the second inning, the Athletics scored six runs on four hits, two errors, and two walks.  Logan Chapman reached on an error and beat a late throw to second on Matt Reid’s sacrifice bunt.  Alex Hernandez, then, lined a single to right field to score Chapman.  With runners at the corners, Ryan Johnson and Andrew In received back to back free passes for a 2-0 lead.  With two outs, Matt Grenier, then, hit a triple over the Yankee’s right fielder to empty the bases for a 5-0 lead.  Grenier scored one pitch later when Jason Malette’s infield grounder was mishandled.                

After Grenier struck out the side in the second inning, the Athletics scored the seventh run of the game when Matt Reid was hit by a pitch and scored two outs later on Andrew In’s single to centerfield.                  

The Yankees cut the lead to 7-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning when Tom Doran walked, advance to second on a passed ball, moved to third on an infield single by David LaMountain and scored when Matt Gambardelli reached on and error.                

The A’s received insurance runs in the top of the sixth inning when Matt Grenier, batting from the right side, hit a two run single to right-center to score Andrew In (single) and Stanley Paulino (reached on an error).                  

Besides Grenier and In’s three-hit games, the A’s received contributions from Paulino (one run scored), Chapman (one run scored), Reid (two runs scored), Hernandez (one single and one run scored), and Ryan Johnson (one single and one run scored).

Offensively, the Yankees received two singles from David LaMountain and one single from Tom Doran.
