Posted by Richard Grenier at Sep 12, 2010 5:00PM PDT ( 0 Comments )

West Warwick's 14-16 year old Wooden Bat team defeated Blackstone (Massachusetts), 2-0, in their Fall Ball opener.

Leading the way for West Warwick was pitcher Matt Masse.  Masse, who pitched the first four innings, struck out ten batters, walked no one, and allowed just one hit.  Drew Doran allowed one hit and struck out three in one inning of relief.

In the first inning, West Warwick took a 1-0 lead when Matt Peterson singled, stole second base, and scored on Matt Masse's two out single.

In the fourth inning, West Warwick opportunistically scored one run when Rich Grenier reached second base on an error, moved to third base on a wild pitch, and scored on an error.

Offensively, West Warwick received support from Matt Peterson (1/2, one run scored), Anthony Castaldi (1/2), Matt Masse (1/2, one stolen base), Rich Grenier (one walk and one run scored).

West Warwick will host Bellingham on Sunday (9/19/2010) at Ray Silva Field.
