As well as the L.A. Park Plaza Hotel
(Mao's office), Santa Anita Racetrack in
L.A. doubled for San Diego's Del Mar
track, and the White House gate
was constructed at an entrance for El
Dorado Park in Long Beach. Another area
used was the Circle K. Ranch in Santa
Ynez, California for the 'Jack Jones'
scenes and Redlands, Cal. for the Nixon
family home during Richard's childhood.
Nixon's marriage to Pat Ryan was filmed
at the Mission Inn in Riverside, Calif.,
which is the very same hotel that the
event orginially took place in. Nixon
campaigning in 1946 with Pat were
filmed in Fillmore, Cal. using a vintage
train. Lastly, scenes taking place on the
Presidential yacht were filmed in the
harbor coast off San Pedro, Cal. using
the 1930's era yacht Electra. The film
finished up in Washington D.C. for scenes
like the midnight meeting between John
Dean and E. Howard Hung filmed at the
Inlet Bridge. 5,000 different costumes
were created for the movie.
