FALCON HEAD COACH 1999-2004 / STEVE HESSER BIO

Posted by Patrick Dailey on Feb 10 2004 at 04:00PM PST

Steve Hesser
July 26th, 1999 - March 1st, 2004

Attended Stillwater High School in Stillwater,
Oklahoma. Coach Hesser continued his basketball
and football career at the New Mexico Military
Academy. Then, he transfered to Central
Oklahoma University. Hesser earned his Master's
Degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1985.

His first coaching experience was at Pauls Valley
High School in southeastern Oklahoma. He was
the head coach for four years for the Panthers.
Next, Coach Hesser was an assistant coach at
the University of Oklahoma for the 1984-1985
basketball season. Bartlesville, Oklahoma was
the next stop for Steve Hesser in the fall of 1985.

Over seven seasons, Coach Hesser had great
success with the Bruins including three Okla.
Class 6-A State Titles and a impressive 147-47
record. He was named Oklahoma Coach of the
Year several times. He moved on to the college
level after his final state title in Bartlesville.
Western Illinois University would be the second
college level job in Coach Hesser's career.

Personal family matters led Coach Hesser to leave
the Leather Necks and return to Stillwater High.
For six years, Hesser led the Pioneers to four
conference titles and two berths in the state
tournament.

After Coach Keltner resigned, Coach Hesser and
his wife thought they'd enjoy coming to the
Ozarks since they spent many vacations at
Lake of the Ozarks and Coach Hesser knew
of the Glendale program from his relationship
with Coach Keltner over the years. Steve had
coached against the Mike Keltner led Glendale
Falcons twice during his stint at Bartlesville and
had attended several of the coaching clinics
hosted by Mike Keltner in the 1990's. So, Hesser
was named the new head coach at Glendale
High soon after resigning from Stillwater on
July 26th, 1999.

Coach Hesser had five wonderful seasons at
Glendale including an Ozark Conference Title
in 2001 and a Class 5, District 11 Title in 2003.
A 66-63 upset of #2 state-ranked Kickapoo at
Kickapoo on January 4th, 2002, was his single
most important victory while at Glendale.
On March 1st, 2004, Steve Hesser was named
the new coach at Drury University in Springfield.
He has won 21 games in each of his first two
seasons with the Panthers, while losing only 16.
