Lady Cougars 2006 Outlook

Posted by Coach Mo on Mar 09 2006 at 04:00PM PST
It's been years, some say a decade, since Phoenix Christian fielded more than a few girls on the track team as far as numbers are concerened. Last years group made a rumble, but this years team is deep, determined & destined to move out of the boys shadow. SPRINTS Freshman Domoneek Staten is expected to live up to her potential a little earlier than expected. A tough, quick sprinter, she's added the hurdles to her list of duties. She's also expected to show up in the 200 and both sprint relays. Newcomer and freshman Bianca Marchand will give Staten a push in the sprints and hurdles. She also has good 400 meter be range and may be expected to help out in the jumps. DISTANCE Megan VaHofwegen has been the team best runner the past 3 years in every event from the 100 to the 1500. She will return to the 800 this year and is expected to help out on all three relays. Kristen Shook will carry the load in the 3200 and be a factor in the 1500 along with Ashley Cowen, a former sprinter. She's also expected to help out in the 4x400 & 4x800. HURDLES A new strong point for the team as Staten & Marchand have both made a smooth transition to the event. Alex Cisco is also proficient in the event as is Cowen, who may find her way to the low hurdles by seasons end. Monique Williams and Christina Bennett are also learning the event, one that is fast becoming a Lady Cougar strong suit. FIELD EVENT If this samll contengent is to become a contender they will need points here. Hopefully Cisco, Karla Bennett and Aileen Galaz can polish up in field events & provide much needed points.
