Hit-A-Thon
VNLL HIT-A-THON FUNDRAISER
Friday, April 10, 2015
Every year our league holds fundraisers to help defray the cost of running our league
and to help keep our registration fees at a reasonable rate. Uniforms, new equipment,
umpire fees, league fees, and other operating expenses can add up fast and this year we
have the added cost of replacing our light poles. Our Hit-A-Thon is designed to raise
money for the league, while providing a chance for the players to get out to the field and
have some fun trying to see how far they can hit!
We ask each and every parent to make an effort to help out by pledging yourself, asking
business friends to donate and assisting players – especially younger ones – with
completing their pledge sheets. We appreciate your assistance and support.
How will it work?
Each player will get 5 hits.
Coaches will pitch to their own players.
T-ball will use a tee.
Each hit will be assigned a point value based on the distance:
• 0 pts – Swing and miss
• 1 pt – Foul ball
• 2 pts – In-field
• 3 pts. – Out-field
• 5 pts. – Over the Fence (Home Run).
• Player will receive a final point total (maximum value 25 pts).
How is money collected?
Fixed amount contributions may be brought with you the day of the Hit-A-Thon. After
the event, you need to contact your sponsors and let them know how much they need to
donate based on your point total.
Prizes
Prizes will be awarded to individuals and teams that collect the most donations. Prizes
will be awarded for the following categories:
• Most points earned by individual per division
• Greatest total donations raised by team (free pizza party for team with most
donations – a buy-out credit will be added to teams that have players that
bought out)
• Greatest total donations raised by top three individuals.
• Winners of the Hit-A-Thon individual and team competitions will be announced
at our Closing Ceremonies in June.
All pledge sheets and funds should be turned into your Manager or Team
Parent no later than April 17th. Make checks payable to VNLL.
2015 VNLL HIT-A-THON
Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the Hit-A-Thon?
A. The Hit-A-thon is VNLL’s primary fundraiser to raise the funds necessary to support
running the league. Members of the league solicit donations from family, friends,
neighbors, and the greater community.
Q. What does this have to do with baseball?
A. Everything! Our league can’t improve without it. Registration fees cover only a minor
part of the basic expenses of the league. Our Hit-A-Thon pays for recent electrical fixes
to our lights, umpire fees, insurance and other basic expenses of running a league.
Q. How does the Hit-a-Thon raise money?
A. Players receive a pledge sheet to solicit pledges and donations from their friends,
family, neighbors, and the greater community. Some donors may sponsor a pledge “per
point” payable after the team participates at the Hit-A-Thon day. The league also
strongly encourages donations of a flat amount to be paid at the time of the
solicitation. Our Hit-A-Thon will be held from 5-8pm on Friday, April 10th at the VNLL
fields. During this time, each player has the opportunity for five hits. Field coordinators
on the field will record each hit on a scorecard. Once a player knows their points earned,
the player promptly contacts those who sponsored a per-point pledge to collect the
donation.
The players turn their money and forms into the Team Parent who turns it over to the
league coordinators. Players with the top three highest donations will receive a prize.
Incentive prizes are also awarded to the team that raises the most money.
Q: Who do we make the checks out to and can we turn in cash?
A: VNLL and yes.
Q: Is it mandatory for each player to participate?
A: No, we offer a “buy out” option for any player that cannot participate on this day
and/or the family that wishes to opt-out of this fundraising opportunity. If you opt to
“buy out” or not participate, your $50 fundraising deposit check, which was collected at
registration, will be cashed.
Q: What constitutes a valid hit?
A: A hit is any ball that makes contact with the bat.
Q: What do I need to wear to my hitting session?
A: Wear comfortable clothes and feel free to bring your favorite bat. A batting helmet is
also required.
Q: What if I cannot make my scheduled hitting time with my team?
A: Tell your Team Parent immediately. We will arrange for you to hit with another
team during the Hit-A-Thon.
Q: When do I collect the money?
A: If a sponsor gives you a "flat amount" then collect it right there. If a sponsor gives you
a "per point" amount, then you will contact that person after the Hit-A-Thon and collect
the correct amount.
Q: When must the money be turned in by?
A: All donations and forms must be turned in to your Team Parent by April 17th to be
eligible for any prizes. Donations can be turned in after that date, but will not be eligible
for prizes.
Q: Is this tax deductible?
A: Yes, VNLL is a 501(c) non-profit.
Q: I have more questions, who do I contact?
A: E-mail vistanational@gmail.com
Q: What time does my team take part in the “Hit-A-Thon?”
A: Our Hit-A-Thon is scheduled from 5-8pm on Friday, April 10th . All teams will be
scheduled within that window and times will be given to Managers and Team Parents as
well as posted in the bulletin board at the snack bar.
All proceeds from our Hit-A-Thon will go towards our operating costs and
replacing the light poles.
Thank you for your support!
