Mar 7 - Opening Day

Posted by Carla Steinmetz at Mar 6, 2009 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )

The annual Little League Baseball World Series Ticket Lottery provides Little League fans with a chance to receive tickets to the World Championship Game of the 2009 Little League Baseball World Series, scheduled for Aug. 30.

Each year thousands of ticket requests are received by Little League International. This year, requests will be accepted through the end of March. Winners will be drawn and notified in April.

Even if tickets are not requested, they are not required for admission or seating in most areas for the other 31 Little League Baseball World Series games. No ticket is ever required, including for the World Championship Game, for seating on the terraced hills overlooking the outfield fence at Howard J. Lamade Stadium.

As always, there is never any admission charged at the Little League Baseball World Series. Parking also is free.

Please click the title to read the full article which includes the address to request tickets.

Team Parent Duties

Posted by Carla Steinmetz at Jan 29, 2009 4:00PM PST ( 0 Comments )
MILL would like to express sincere appreciation to each team parent for serving in this vital position.  The role of team parent is very important.  Team parents serve as a liaison between managers/coaches and parents, organize volunteer activities such as scorebook keeper, concession, and much more.  Team managers & coaches rely on their team parent to assist them in communicating information to the team's familes.

Below are some suggestions for team parent duties:

  • Get every parent involved with your team. You will need help with score keeping, field preparation, snacks, concession stand duty, dugout duties, game announcing, etc.

  • Get every parent's phone numbers (home and work), pager, cell phone, and home address in case you need to get in quick contact regarding a game or practice scheduling change. At all age divisions, a parent should either stay at practices or games or let you know where they can be reached in case of sudden rain, injury, etc.
  • As soon as the MILL schedule is available, please distribute to your parents and let them know their assigned duty times.

    • For the Majors and Minor 1, set up a schedule for someone to keep the score book, pitch count, and someone to run the scoreboard/announce the game for home games.

    • Set up a schedule for workers in the concession stand during your team's scheduled home games.

    • Set up a schedule for parents to provide snacks after the games.

  • Here are the game volunteer scheduling guidelines:

    • Concessions - 1 parent for each game, 2 parents for inter-league games at MILL fields
    • Field Prep - 2 home team parents
    • Scorekeeper  - 1 home team parent (Minor 1 and Majors only)
    • Pitch Counter - 1 home team parent (Minor 1 and Majors only)
    • Scoreboard - 1 home team parent to run the scoreboard (Minor 1 and Majors only)
    • Announcer - 1 home team parent (Minor 1 and Majors only, optional for Minor 2)
    • Snacks - 1 parent for each game (if desired, this is optional)

  • Have a parent's meeting to distribute copies of the team roster and schedules of practices, games, and upcoming events.

  • Distribute the uniforms to the players.

  • Gather information on each child's medical condition or special needs or keep track of the medical forms from registration.

  • Encourage acceptable dugout behavior.

  • Assist with Opening Day - scheduling parentsfor duty and getting the team ready for the pictures and the ceremony.

  • Distribute and fundraising information and/or collect the money. This will happen sometime mid-season.

  • Check with each team member about any problems with transportation for the games or practices. Remind parents to inform you and the manager about any schedule problems with games and practices. Please make sure a parent has picked up every player before leaving all games and practices.

  • Work with parents on organizing an end of season party (if desired) and/or Coach's gift.

  • Other activities that might need to be coordinated and scheduled.
