Little League Bat Information

Posted by Carla Steinmetz on Jan 05 2011 at 04:00PM PST

Dear Parents/Guardians, Happy New Year to all!

Best wishes for a healthy and peaceful year ahead.   Effective January 6, 2011, Little League Baseball has banned specific composite bats for the Majors, Minors and T-Ball Divisions.  Bats comprised of a composite barrel are prohibited within Little League practices and games.  Furthermore, bats with composite handles and alloy/aluminum (2 ¼ inch) barrels are permitted.

Additionally, Little League has currently posted a list of approved non wood bats for the 2011 season.  Prior to purchasing a bat, it would be prudent to review the approved listing.  You may find valuable information per this site:

http://www.littleleague.org/media/newsarchive/2010/Sep-Dec/LLBBCompositeBatMoratoriumFAQ.htm

Furthermore, there is a FAQ section which addresses specific concerns forwarded by parents.  There could be future amendments to the approved listing.  We strongly suggest you review additional articles at the following address:  www.littleleague.org

To ensure compliance with the mandated rule, parents, coaches and managers are obligated to examine bats prior to the season.

Players may utilize their current bats for tryouts next weekend.

Please contact me if you have any further questions or concerns.

Respectfully,

Jack Luchs
