Dave's defeats Junior Police 5-0

Posted by David Sampson on Jun 09 2009 at 05:00PM PDT

In a battle of the top two teams in the major league standings, Dave’s Marketplace won the rubber match of their three game regular season series by a score of 5-0. The game played much closer than the score indicated, as the score was 1-0 heading into the 5th inning, but Dave’s broke it open with 2 runs in each of the last two innings. Ryan Gwaltney pitched 5 strong innings for Dave’s keeping the very potent JP’s offence off balance. Ryan allowed 5 hits and struck out 9 over his 5 innings. Dave’s banged out 11 hits off Jarrett Hurteau but he never allowed a “big” inning as Dave’s had numerous opportunities to run the score up higher, but tremendous defensive plays by Trevor Huntington, Cam Lamarre, and Nick Mungeon kept JP’s within range to make a late comeback. In the bottom of the 6th, JP’s made a last offensive push when they worked Dave’s ace closer Zach Sullivan for 3 walks with 2 outs, but Sullivan and catcher Peter Webber caught Bobby Daly trying to steal home on a pass ball and secured the shutout for Dave’s. Dave’s offense was sparked by Alex Smith who went 2 for 2, Jimmy Moan who went 2 for 3, Ryan Nabb who went 2 for 2, and both Zach Sullivan and Ryan Gwaltney both hit bombs off the center field fence for doubles. JP’s hits were from Mongeon and Huntington who both went 2 for 2, and Tyler Chabot whom went 1 for 3.
