Pitch, Hit and Run 2013

Posted by James DeStaven III on Apr 26 2013 at 05:00PM PDT

Another great Pitch, Hit and Run down in the books. We had a record turn out of kids participating in the program and several winners will be advancing to Tallahassee next month. With the skills our kids possess, one or more of them may be the lucky person making it all the way to the Major League Baseball All Star Game. Good luck boys and girls. You guys ROCK!!!!!!!

Just walking around the park was enriching. Watching the Tballers Participating was amazing. These kids, even at this early age, amaze me with their talents. The older kids were excited to participate and smiles were abundant. The stress of the ball game was gone and they were there to show us their skills and abilities. Fun, Fun times at Shalimar Little League.

It was also great to see Tanner Dubose at the ball park. If you haven’t read Tanner’s Journey, please do so. You will find it posted about a month ago on this page. Thank you Tanner for joining us!!!

Thanks Stan Grieco and all the rest of our great volunteers. You made the program fun and successful. It was a well organized function. Thanks Dana Maloy and her crew for a great job in the Concession. Those BarBQ plates were delicious. I would love to call each and every volunteer by name but I don’t want to miss anyone. You were all amazing and made the day a perfect success.

After the days activities we played an adult/youth Slow Pitch Softball game. Leaders Kevin Kramer and Will Anderson picked their teams and it was PLAY BALL!!! Illegal Pitches, Pushing Players off the Bases, Liquid Hazard Areas, Questionable Bats and Batting Techniques were the rule of the game. It was amazing to me that our Umpire Coordinator was participating in the CHAOS. Mike Wong, a so called pitcher, found it very hard to find home plate, at one point missing the plate by 30 feet. Amazing!! It took everything, James DeStaven, the Umpire in Charge, could do to keep some sanity in this game. We sure missed Angie Schultz’s guidance, clear head, and calm temper. J

After several innings it was unclear to me who won. I really don’t think anyone cared, lol.

We packed up, cleaned up, and all went home burnt, tired, but thrilled. At the end of the day, we knew this was meant to be. It was a day not about me, not about you, mostly about the kids, but really for us all!!!! Days like this are what makes our Little League Family so Great!!!! If it’s not about fun, It’s not Little League!!!!
