The Road Ahead

Posted by Doug Lowe on Feb 04 2006 at 04:00PM PST
(Feb. 5) The General Meeting is behind us, teams are formed and practicing. The month of February is used to finish our field upgrades, organize the Team Moms, create game schedules, and fill in all the blanks before the season kicks off with our opening ceremonies on March 3rd. We will post information as it becomes available. (Jan. 24) Our yearly General Meeting will be held on Saturday, February 4th at the Oldtown Community Center adjacent to Hunt Park. At this meeting, coaches will announce their teams and get us started. Hats and team equipment will be handed out and practice schedules will be ready. It's the time to meet your new team! It is also an opportunity to meet the board and other volunteers and learn about the league. This is a most important meeting for our league and we hope everyone can attend. This year we will break the meeting up along age lines to make things less crowded and hectic. The times will post to the web in a few days (after the 26th). (Jan. 2) The most important things to watch this month are the Calendar, Fields Projects, and Committee sections. The work done in January and February is critical to a successful season. Drop us an email, give us a call, join us at a board meeting - help make this a special year. Ambitious plans require ambitious people. Thanks. (Dec. 19) Watch for our Calendar page to update with events for the whole season. The changes should be complete by Jan. 1. We are looking forward to an exciting season. There are some new rules from Little League International that deal with pitch counts and all-star teams. We have a new age cutoff in effect this year which Little League hopes will align kids better. Several of our divisions will use paid umpires with the goal of providing a better game experience. Many upgrades are being made at both Hunt Park and Foundation Field. The girl's softball program will be playing an inter-league schedule with several nearby leagues, making their schedule more varied and competitive. Major attention is being paid to the softball program. Much effort is being cast at the snack bars. You will be able to get a good cup of coffee and a tasty hot dog, everyone's right at any ball park. Check our Sponsor's page to see the generous and wonderful companies in our area who support this youth sports program. Check our Field Projects page to see what is happening to the parks. Check our Committees page to see if there are any areas you might want to help us in. The 2005 - 2006 Board of Directors are committed to providing a quality program. We hope you'll join us. Let us know how we're doing.
