When you mention the Katy Tigers, many may think of their elite football program. However, for those in the baseball community, it is well known that the Katy Tigers have become one of the most consistent programs in all of 5A Baseball. Under the guidance of Coach Mac, the Tigers have consistently made play-off appearances and claimed District Crowns. Since the inception of Houston 5A Baseball.com the Tigers have either won outright, tied, or finished runner up for District Titles. In 2005, Katy ran into some great young talent from Cinco Ranch and a couple of classic battles with district foe Katy Taylor. This resulted in Katy’s lowest finish in district (3rd) in the past five years. That being said, The Tigers still made a more than respectable play-off run defeating the upstart Kempner Cougars in the first round and battling a powerful Tomball team to three games in the second round.

Coach McPherson has developed an amazing ability of blending experienced Varsity players with young talent to field a winner more times than not. In 2006 the Tigers will once again be faced with battling serious contenders in 19-5A. The emergence of Cinco Ranch, Strake Jesuit, & Mayde Creek will provide a tough road for Katy High. Throw in a couple of the best rivalry games in 5A Baseball with Katy Taylor, and the Tigers will more than have their work cut out for them. 2006 could see the best battle in 19-5A in many years and when May rolls around, I would expect the Tigers to be right there in the mix.
