Azevedo Hitchcock Wrestling Camp 2014

Azevedo Hitchcock Wrestling Camp

Our wrestlers will be attending a wrestling camp this summer in Lindsay, California!

Originally opened as the "Vaughn Hitchcock Wrestling Camp" in 1967 in Clearlake, CA as legendary Cal Poly coach Vaughan Hitchcock introduced to California prep wrestlers the technique and style of wreslting that earned Coach Hitchcock's teams an unprecedented 8 NCAA Division II National Championships.  Through the years, tens of thousands of young people have attended the camp and have attested to the fact that their camp experiences had a direct influence on the many state and national championships won.

In 2001, Coach Hitchcock handed the camp over to another California wrestling legend, current Cal Poly Head Coach, John Azevedo.

Olympian and NCAA Champion John Azevedo, coming off of winning an unprecedented 7 CIF State Wrestling Championships at Calvary Chapel High School, returned to coaching at the collegiate level at California Polytechnic Institute at San Luis Obispo as a NCAA Division I Head Coach.

Before taking over the coaching and management of the Califonia wreslting camps, Coach John was determined to provide the same level of camp experience and wrestling expertise that generations of athletes have come to expect from the Vaughan Hitchcock wrestling camps.  After seven years of running the Azevedo-Hitchcock wrestling camps, Coach Azevedo has seamlessly sustained the outstanding legacy of California's oldest and most respected wrestling camp.

The goal of Azevedo Wrestling is to remain true to the rich tradition of the Vaughn Hitchcock Wreslting Camp while evolving the training to meet the needs of the modern day wrestler.  Our wrestling camps are designed to create a highly skilled and well-rounded wrestler.  Each wrestler will be involved in six hours of wrestling instruction daily. Additional emphasis will be placed on weight training, goal setting, weight management, and mental preparation. Azevedo Wreslting instruction is designed to motivate the novice wrestler and challenge the more advanced.  It will be up to the wrestler to decide how much they want to acheive.

Living Accomodations:  All wrestlers and facilities are supervised 24 hours a day.  Each wrestler will be assigned sleeping areas at check-in.

Meals:  An exceptional menu with  a wide assortment of health conscious foods will be prepared fresh, with unlimited helpings sure to satisfy any wrestler's appetite.
