Wickford 1 Sweeps 2009 Narragansett Friendship Tournament

Wickford 1 completes a perfect 10-0 season with a convincing 6-1 win over Lincoln in the championship game 

Wickford combined timely hitting, terrific defense and a superb pitching performance by Jake Eland to win the championship game. Jake pitched 5.2 innings allowing 3 hits, walking only one batter and striking out 8. Ryan Smith recorded the final out, a strike out with two runners on base. The defense was lead by Ryan Smith making 2 terrific plays at short and one at second and Jake Eland making two terrific plays on soft hit balls down the third base line.  Wickford scored four runs in the second inning as Mark Rogers and Jake Eland each drove in two runs. Mark had a great at bat and lined a double to left field. Wickford scored the last 2 runs in the 4th inning, the key hit was a double by Tyler Chabot. Jimmy Moan and Tyler Chabot each scored 2 runs for Wickford. Wickford had a terrific season with contributions from all 13 players. The team hit 14 home runs (Alec Bedard led with 5 followed by Jack Lafreniere with 4, Mark Rogers 3 and one each for A.J. Bucci and Dallin Smith). Eight players averaged better than one hit per game including Jimmy Moan, Jack Lafreniere, Ryan Smith, A.J. Bucci, Alec Bedard, Jake Eland, Brandon Faine and Dallin Smith. 

The pitching staff led by Jake Eland, Ryan Smith, Travis Sampson, and Jack Lafreniere gave up only 16 runs in 10 games. The catchers; Jimmy Moan, Matt Gauthier, AJ. Bucci and Travis Sampson were terrific in calling games and playing great defense. The defense was solid all year the outfield corps were led by Ryan Nabb, Dallin Smith and Jack Lafreniere. The air tight infield was led by Ryan Smith, Tyler Chabot, Brandon Faine and our first baseman Mark Rogers and Matt Gauthier.
