 GAME SUMMARY:

Elmwood improved its record to 6-5 in a hard won battle and pitching duel with Bailey’s. Jake Eland and Danny Hayden locked horns in a pitchers’ duel that resulted in a total of seven hits over the course of the game.  Hayden earned his fourth win of the season allowing just one run on two hits and logging nine strikeouts in five and one-third innings of work.  Matt Boelter closed the game out in outstanding fashion, recording two-thirds of an inning of work and allowing no runs and no hits.  Jake Eland pitched equally as well, but timely hits on the part of Tyler Carter and Travis Sampson gave Elmwood the edge in the 5-1 win.  Baliey’s jumped out to an early 1-0 lead following a lead-off single by Dean Streich who eventually came around to score on a throwing error and consecutive passed balls.  Elmwood was shut down in order in the bottom of the first, but responded with two runs in the bottom of the second on a single and stolen base by Tyler Carter, a walk by Liam Darcy, and an RBI single by Travis Sampson to take a 2-1 lead.  Both offenses remained silent, behind outstanding pitching by Hayden and Eland, until the bottom of the fourth when Elmwood plated two more runs to take a 4-1 lead.  Tyler Carter hit a lead-off single to open the bottom of the fourth and Liam Darcy drew his second walk of the game.  Travis Sampson then doubled over the left fielder’s head to drive in two runs. Joe Craven came on in relief and dealt two strikeouts to end the inning.  Elmwood added its final run in the bottom of the fifth following a lead-off walk to Cam Moniz, a two base error to left field and an RBI ground out to short on a diving play in the hole by Joe Craven.  Danny Hayden reached his pitch count after retiring the first batter in the top of the sixth inning and gave way to Matt Boleter who came on to finish the game.
