Fourteen hits weren't enough for Frederick Hustlers 11u as it lost a shootout, 11-10 in six innings, to Spooky Nook Baseball 11u on Saturday at Yellow Springs Elem. School. Gates Griffin racked up four RBIs on three hits for Frederick Hustlers 11u. He homered in the fifth inning and singled in the first and sixth innings. The top of the first saw Frederick Hustlers 11u take an early lead, 1-0. Isiah Dillenger got things going for Frederick Hustlers 11u with a single. A stolen base then moved Isiah from first to second. Gates singled, bringing home Isiah. The game's last lead went to Spooky Nook Baseball 11u thanks to a first inning rally that saw three runs cross the plate on a groundout by Nick and two singles. Finally, Colin induced an inning-ending strike out from Brooks Aleshire. Spooky Nook Baseball 11u pushed across two runs in both the third inning and the fifth. In the third, Spooky Nook Baseball 11u scored on a two-run single by Taso, plating Colin and Kyle. Two runs in the top of the fourth helped Frederick Hustlers 11u close its deficit to 5-4. It didn't take long for Spooky Nook Baseball 11u to answer as it scored four runs of its own in the fourth. Spooky Nook Baseball 11u scored on an error, a two-run home run by Christian, and a solo home run by Nick. After pushing across three runs in the top of the fifth, Frederick Hustlers 11u faced just a 9-7 deficit. An RBI single by Isiah and a two-run home run by Gates set off Frederick Hustlers 11u rally. Brooks flew out to end the Frederick Hustlers 11u threat. Spooky Nook Baseball 11u tacked on another two runs in the fifth. The inning looked promising, as Taso singled, plating Kyle to kick things off. After pushing across three runs in the top of the sixth, Frederick Hustlers 11u faced just a 11-10 deficit. An RBI single by Gates and a two-run single by Andrew Stroka fueled Frederick Hustlers 11u's comeback. Spooky Nook Baseball 11u closed the game out after a hard battle by the Hustlers.
