Dear Parents,

As most are aware there is a Little League rule that if a 12 yr old would like to play in the Majors then they must be drafted by a team. As a board we just want to ensure kids/parents are making the best decision and are aware of what life in the Majors is like.

In Majors the minimum playing time rule is 2 innings in the field and 1 AB. Playing time is decided based on ability not age. The level of competition can be intense and overwhelming for some. Not every player will pitch and/or play infield.

The question comes up every year if a player can go back to AAA if they realize early in the season the Majors is not for them. Unfortunately that cannot be done as it is not fair to AAA to place a kid on a team after their draft has taken place.

12 yr old year should be a child’s best year of youth baseball. Every year there are handful of players that decide to play in the Majors and that does not end up being the case. On the other hand there are number of players that come up to the Majors each year and have a great deal of success.

Any specific questions can be directed to Assistant Majors Director Steve Pratt: spratt8994@gmail.com

Regards,

Braintree American Little League Board of Directors
