Varsity Boys and Girls have Successful Day at Districts

At Scranton Memorial Stadium, the Lakeland varsity track teams showed the league that Lakeland is on its way back to the top of the district.  The girls team finished second with 95 points and the boys finished 5th with 55 points.  The girls team was lead by the performances of senior Tori Doyle, junior Sarah Larkin, and freshman Cassidy Jenkins.  Jenkins started the meet off with a win in the 100 hurdles with another school record time of 14.91.  Her teammate Doyle finished third in the same race.  Jenkins also won the 300h.  Doyle closed out her district career with a gold in the high jump and a silver in the pole vault.  Jenkins and Doyle also teamed with Larkin, and Jordyn Tomcykoski to grab a 4th place medal in the 4x1 relay.  Jenkins finished off her meet with a 6th place medal in the 4x4 relay where she teamed with Ashton Boyarsky, Lauren Holt, and Dana Buskovitz.  Larkin added a silver in both the 100 and 200.  Senior Alex Miller ended her career with a 5th place medal in the 3200 run.  Boyarsky added 4th, and 6th place medals in the long and triple jumps.  Breann Clause-walton finished off the medaling with a 4th place in the shot put.  Larkin, Doyle, and Jenkins will be competing at States next week.  The boys team coming off a less than stellar 13th place finish last year, scored 55 points ending up 5th.  The underclassmen led the way for this group.  The 4x8 team of Tim Von Storch, Zach Krieger, Mark Arzie, and Nathan Morgan started off the day with a silver.  Arzie also grabbed a silver in the 800 and teamed with Gavin O'Donnell, Casey Albino, and Brandon Newberry to grab another silver in the 4x4.  Albino added a 4th in the 400m and O'Donnell grabbed a 4th in the 110 hurdles.  Dante Deantonio finished off the medaling with a silver in the shot-put and a 5th in the javelin.  The 4x8, Arzie, 4x4, and Deantionio will be headed to states next week at Shippensburg University.  Counting relay alternates, Lakeland will be bringing 13 athletes to the state meet.  Its most since 2007.
