2012 Knights Organization

Posted by Jacob Taylor on Oct 29 2011 at 05:00PM PDT

Steve and I wanted to take an opportunity to give a quick Knights update to all the teams, a lot of very positive things have happened for the Knights Organization in the last 60 days or so since SKVII and we wanted to give you all a summary report.  We are moving into our 2012 season and we are excited what the future holds for our program.

2012 Teams –

The Federal Way Knights will have 9 teams on the field in 2012!  We feel that we have great coaching staffs and some of the best baseball and fast pitch resources in our community and even in the state to help develop our players.  Here is a summary of the 2012 teams along with the managers.

10U Fastpitch                     Tom Magruder

10U Baseball                      John Sugg / Steve Pearson

11U Baseball                      Bob Beck / Rion Ramirez

12U Baseball                      Scott Keene

13U Baseball                      Bryan Bakker

14U Fastpitch                     Gary Haven

14U Baseball                      Shaun Mick

15U Baseball                      Steve Adkinson

18U Baseball                      Tom Wagner

Knights Organization           Cathy Pearson

For 2012, the Knights would like to welcome Bob Beck (11U), Danny Graham (12U), Joe Hayworth (12U), Steve Adkinson (15U), and Jay Roberts (15U) to our coaching staffs.  Each of their baseball resumes is too long to list, however all 5 of these guys bring with them extensive experience to help our players!  For the Knights to add 5 coaches of this caliber in one year to the club is very exciting for our program.

2012 Players Fees

For the 2012 season, the player’s fees payable to the Knights organization will remain $250 per player, 18U Baseball will be $350.  The player's family will pay the team, and the team will pay the Knights Organization in one payment.  The team payments to the Knights Organization are due on November 1st.  The teams can set their own deadlines with the individual player's families.  These costs cover the following expenses for each of the players during the year, Organizational issued uniforms, hats, fields (not LL fields), lights, insurance, and general administrative costs, subsidized costs on Knights gear offerings.

2012 Fundraising

As in prior years the Federal Way Knights Organization will provide 3 fundraising opportunities for the teams during 2012.

·         Summer Knights VIII Tournament – July 2012.

·         Orange and Grapefruit Fundraiser – November / December 2011

·         Car Wash Ticket Sale  -- February / March 2012

For those who are new to the club, the Orange and Grapefruit and the Car Wash ticket fundraisers will be organized by the Knights Organization, participation is optional at the team level, and they are effort based – meaning your teams gets all the profits for your sales efforts.  History has shown has with reasonable effort from a team that approximately $5000 can be earned a year for a team between the oranges and car wash fundraiser.  For teams that participate (which in the past have been most/all) the team manager or contact works with the families directly on sales goals, prizes if any for sales levels, and a budget for the fundraiser.

SUMMER KNIGHTS VIII

The Summer Knights tournament will in all likelihood move to a 2 weekend event in 2012.  The dates for the tournament are going to be the weekend of July 20-22 and 27-29.  In the new model, each teams playing and working will be coordinated to be on opposite weekends as much as possible.  It’s not to say that families won’t have to work during their playing weekend, but that will be the general goal.  The growth of the event will allow for more teams participation in the work and profits.  We have developed a model for entry and exit into the tournament earnings and work based on tenure of a team, this is being balanced with our existing model and allowing for previous commitments made before the tournament grew.  This will be a credit based system and the percentage of earnings will be based on the number of credits a team has in relationship to the total credits.

Executive Committee

The Knights have an Executive Committee that meets from time to time to discuss Knights overall planning and direction.  With the growth of the Organization, we are having one representative from each team that can sit on the Executive Committee for planning and visionary purposes.  If you do not already have an Executive Committee member in place, or if you have 2 from the previous year, please select one to attend these meetings.  This winter the Executive Committee will meet in November, January, and March to plan for the upcoming tournament and Knights activities in general.  It is a good idea to have this representative be someone that can report back to the families on Knights developments.  Someone outside of the coaching staff is recommended, but not required.

General Knights Organization Volunteers Needed for 2012

We have identified 3 positions that we would like some support with for the 2012 year if possible.  They are not big jobs but can really help us out

1.     Secretary for Meetings – someone who can attend the Knights meetings, take notes and present into minutes, and keep a copy of the handouts from the meetings along with the minutes in an annual notebook.

2.     Knights Annual Program – Media Guide/electronic and print :  We would like to take a shot at making a Knights program / media guide for the Knights organization as a whole.  This would involve Coordinating  team and individual pictures early in the year, developing player bios for each player, have the information end up on each teams web page electronically, and then if economically feasible have a certain number of copies of the guide in print for families as a keepsake and whatever other purpose it might serve.

3.     Publicity Director – someone that can work directly with the local newspapers to promote Knights events, give results of games / tournaments / etc. for the Knights program as a whole in the community.

Please let us know if you are interested in helping the Knights develop in these areas.

We are looking forward to a great 2012, please let us know if you have any questions.  We look forward to seeing all of you at the next meeting on October 23rd.

Thanks

John and Steve
